The Lineage of Mewar traces the origin of
the Mewar Dynasty from Surya, Therefore the Ancestry The Tutelary Deity of the dynasty of the Maharanas is Shree Eklingnath, an Avatar of Lord Shiva. This Royal Dynasty is one of the oldest ruling families of the World. It races its roots to Guhaditya in 569 A.D. and it6 has had a region of unbroken succession and continuity for over 1400 years. The Ancestry of the House of Mewar originates from Bapa (7234 A.D.), the fountain head of piety and humiity for the Guhilot Kings of Mewar.He is the true founding fat6her of the dynasty.Bapa Rawal’s religious rigour and nobility earned him the blessings of his Guru, Harit rashi.It is he who entrusted Bapa lkand his successors with the right to administrate and function as Trustees of the State of Mewar.The Maharanas therefore perform and discharge their duties and responsibilities as the Dewan of Shri Eklingji.They are but a transient Regent representing the people before Eklingji and not as a Ruler by Divine right as in other Monarchies. Born in December 1944 ,Arvind Singh Mewar is the grandson of Lieut. General his late Highness Maharana Sir Sri Bhupal Singhji of Udaipur, Mewar G.C.S.I., K.C.I.E. The last ruling sovereign of Mewar and the Maharaj Pramukh of integrated Rajasthan and son of His late Highness Maharana Bhagwat Singhji of Udaipur, Mewar. The last recognized Ruler of Udaipur, Mewar under the Indian Constitution.His mother, her late Highness Maharanu Sushila Kumariji , was the grand-daughter of General His late Highness Maharaja Sir Sri Ganga Singhji of Bikaner,G.C.S.I, G.C.I.E., G.C.V.O., G.B.E., K.C.B., A.D., C., LL.D., and daughter of His late Highness Maharaja Sir Sri Sardul Singhji of Bikaner,G.C.S.I., K.C.I.E., C.V.O. Acacemics Arvind Singh Mewar was educated at Mayo College, Ajmer from where he completed his School Certificate conducted by The Cambridge university, Thereafter, he obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature, Economics and Political Science at Maharana Bhupal College,Udaipur. To polish his inherited business,acumen, he took a hotel management course from The Metropolitan College,St.Albans in Britain. He then furthered his studies in the U.S. with valuable non ljob training,from kitchen hand to executive, thus becoming familiar with every aspect of running first-class hotels internationally. Preservation of Heritage Thankfully, a sense of dedication to his magnificent heritage – which he considers ‘essential and urgent’ – parallels his business interests. He is avidly occupied with preserving or acquiring, and painstakingly restoring and cataloguing for posterity,historical artifacts and antiques at Udaipur’s City Palace Museum, the establishment of a comprehensive library collection of Rajashtani literature , music and art ; the conservation of Mewar historic monuments, Palaces and other heritage sites. Museums Maharana Mewar Foundation Museum in the City Palace, Udaipur, was set up by His late Highness, to which he hdonated thousands of historical objects, paintings, artifacts, sculptures and artilleries depicting the History of Mewar along with Immovable properties within the City Palace Complex and a cash endowment in 1971. He also founded the Scheme of Maharana Mewar Foundation Award to recognize, appreciate and acknowledge contributions made by eminent Indians towards the awakening and upliftment of society. Arvind Singh Mewar has added several more prestigious State, National and International level Awards to this chain. Arvind Singh Mewar established the Maharana Mewar Research Institute dedicated to research and publication of the priceless wealth of information and facts buried under the records of the achieves , which may some day reveal a new picture of the historic movements of Mewar and India. Arvind Singh Mewar also amalgamated the three existing Libraries in different locations and created a brand new space in the basement of the Manak Chowk with the latest and modern facilities to house nearly 30,000 rare books and titled it as the Maharana Mewar Special Library. Collections :- The Crystal Gallery located in the Fateh Prakash Palace overlooking the Durbar Hall was opened to the public in 1994 , Maharana Sajjan Singhji (1874-884 A.D.), ordered unique articles of crystal in 1877 through F & C Osler and Co., Birmingham, England. Due to his sudden demise in 1884, the Maharana never got to see the articles, which were delivered much later. The articles remained unused till 1963 when Late Maharana Bhagwat Singhji placed a few of them at jag Niwas (now Lake Palace), WHEN IT WAS STARTED AS A HOTEL. For the first time (from August 1993), these articles were consolidated and placed by Arvind Singh Mewar in the gallery on the first floor surrounding the Durbar Hall. Today the Crystal Gallery is the largest collection of its type in the world. The Vintage & Classic Car Collection of the Palace, Udaipur was inaugurated on February 16, 2000 by Lord Montagu of Beaulieu and Mr. K.S. Money. The Car Collection is housed at the former Mewar State Motor Garage within the grounds of the Garden Hotel & Restaurant. The uniqueness of the collection is that the cars have been in the Mewar family always and is still owned by them. The Maharanas of Mewar have always encouraged Indian classical music and other activities of cultural importance. Similarly because of his personal interest Arvind Singh Mewar extends patronage and assists in the promotion and preservation of Indian classical music and dance in all its traditional forms. He has a phenomenal collection of Music of the bygone eras. Like the association of the Dagar Dhrupad tradition in the Mewar court has been there since Maharana Sajjan Singhji ( 1874-1884 A.D.) region. Today Arvind Singh Mewar has taken the taks of restoring this analogue taped collection, made fifty years ago and releasing them in digital Compact Disk format to the world audience by incorporating a special company with its own music label. The Mewar Dynasty has always had an inclination towards documentation of events and acquisition of objects which speak about ythe best available technology and art of the times. An exceptional collection of private Cince film fottage and Still Cameras are a part of this legacy. This collection of the turn of this century and previous to that is methodically consolidated, catalogued and preserved by Arvind Singh Mewar. Sports :- Arvind Singh Mewr’s interests cover not only history, culture and education ; he has also been a keen sportsman in his time, excelling in hockey and cricket. For over a decade he played cricket at the Ranji Trophy level. A distinguished student of Mayo College, Ajmer. Arvind Singh Mewar captained not only the Mayo College Cricket Team, but was appointed Captain of the First Rajasthan chools Cricket Team in the All India Schoolss Tournament. Subsequently, he captained the Rajasthan University and the Udaipur University Teams in the Inter-University Cricket Tournaments. He also played First Class Cricket for Rajasthan. Like his father, he is a keen sportsman. Today he takes an active interest in training young cricketers and often visits them at the nets & ground he has provided at Shikarbadi, to watch their progress and, at times, offer valuable advice. His main interest,however,now switched to polo.He has established a full fledged Polo Complex jut outside Jaipur known as The Ramgarh Resort and Polo Complex. Regular National and International tournaments are conducted at this centre. At his famous stud farm in Udaipur several young polo ponies are always in training. After all India is where the game originated and therefore his ultimate ambition is to make Indian polo excel internationally. Clubs :- Although he no longer rides, Arvind Singh Mewar is prominent on the boards of several sporting institutions in India. Arvind Singh Mewar is a Member of the Rajasthan Cricket Association, the Cricket Club of India , the Bombay Cricket Association, the Bombay Gymkhana, the Marleybone Cricket Club, London, U.K. He is also President of the Rajasthan Volleyball Association. He is the Patron of The Udaipur Enquine UInstitute, Imperial Riding and Polo Club. The Cambridge and New Market Polo Club, Cambridge shire, U.K. A member of the Amateur Riders Club, Delhi Polo Club, and was a Steward of Indian Polo Association . He I also a member of The Royal Western India Turu Club. Social Consciousness :- Arvind Singh Mewar is a well known patron of Public and Religious Trusts. He is actively managing various Pubic Charitable Trusts and Institutions created to serve society as a whole, without distinction of caste, creed or religion. The prestigious Maharana Mewar Charitable Foundation , sponsors annual awards for excellence in promoting many vital aspects of Rajasthani lifestyle and culture. The Foundation has established several charitable trusts, as well. Arvind Singh Mewar is the Managing Trustee of Shree Eklingji Trust and other religious Trusts. He is an ardent devotee of Shree Eklingji and is dedicated to continuing the activities connected with the promotion of obligations and duties of the Institution of Maharana and observes the cardinal principles of his Guru Harit Rashi in Service to Man. Business Leader :- He prefers to be addressed simply as Arvind Singh Mewar. Although , he is still revered as “Shriji” or a “leader” by the people of his forefather’s erstwhile kingdom of Mewar. Mores significantly, he is known nationally and internationally as the head of a large and highly successful multifaceted orgnisation , which converse a disparate range of activities. He is Managing Director / Chairman of the chain of famous palaces / heritage properties regenerated into luxurious hotels , A sound business venture initiated in 1962 by his later father is further being refined and built upon. Among them are Udaipur’s ethereal Lake Palace, the Shikarbadi retreat, the historic Fateh Prakash and sumptuous Shiv Niwas Palaces, with others found throughout Rajasthan, and new ones on the drawing board. He is now the Chairman and Managing Director of various commercial institutions. Ever sincere took complete charge of management of these Companies, he has introduced and adopted latest technologies and modern techniques of management. Under his stewardship , all the Companies have shown a phenomenal rate of growth. A Dedicated Survivor :- If a man is known by his farsightedness, then Arvind Singh Mewar’s vision is set to earn him the rightful place as a befitting successor to the legacy of Mewar.
