Preparations Begin for ‘Ghoomar Mahotsav 2025’ in Udaipur Division

Udaipur. Preparations for ‘Ghoomar Mahotsav 2025’, a grand celebration symbolizing Rajasthan’s folk culture, women empowerment, and public participation, have begun with great enthusiasm across the Udaipur Division. Initiated under the guidance of Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari, the state government will organize this vibrant festival simultaneously at all seven divisional headquarters on November 19 (Saturday). The event aims to present Rajasthan’s traditional folk dance, Ghoomar, in a refreshing and energetic form.

A review meeting was held on Friday at the Tourism Department, Udaipur, under the chairmanship of Joint Director Sumita Saroch, to discuss the festival’s roadmap. Several social and cultural organizations expressed keen interest in participating, including Rotary Club of Udaipur Meera, Nari Chetna Sansthan, CAIT, JITO, Sakal Jain Samaj Mahila Wing, Chakra Sadhna Jyotish Kendra, Kathak Ashram, Virassat Folk Dance Show, Mansi Sansthan, Jain Social Group Sangini ‘Arham’, Ajab Seva Sansthan, Women Business Circle, and Meera Prakash Verma Foundation.

Representatives from these groups—Rekha Soni, Sushma Kumawat, Vijayalakshmi Galundia, Vidya Verma, Chandrakala Chaudhary, Mahesh Ameta, Rashmi Pagaria, Navneet Chhabra, Sheetal Gupta, Acharya Anima Goswami, and Lav Verma—attended the meeting. On this occasion, the poster of ‘Ghoomar Mahotsav 2025’ was also unveiled.

The discussion focused on training schedules, participant registration, and venue selection for the event. Joint Director Sumita Saroch informed that training workshops will commence from November 12 across the Udaipur Division. She emphasized that the objective of the Mahotsav is to reconnect the younger generation with the true essence of the Ghoomar dance and to strengthen women’s connection with their cultural heritage.

Girls and women above 12 years of age, including homemakers, students, dance school members, and members of self-help groups, can participate. Registrations will be accepted under two categories—Individual and Group—though only groups consisting of 20 to 25 members will compete. To facilitate this, help desks have been set up at the divisional offices of the Tourism Department.

Also present at the meeting were Deputy Director Shikha Saxena, Assistant Director Divyani Wardia, and other departmental officials and staff. The upcoming ‘Ghoomar Mahotsav 2025’ promises to become a unique confluence of folk dance and community participation, further establishing Udaipur as a center of cultural celebrations in Rajasthan.
