Awakening Awareness to Combat Child Marriage

A program aimed at raising awareness about the prevention of child marriage was held on Tuesday in Gogunda, under the vigilant supervision of the Department of Child Rights and ChildFund India. The event, which coincided with the auspicious occasion of Akha Teej and Pipal Purnima, aimed to completely halt the prevalent practice of child marriage and inspire adolescents to actively discourage it within society.

Key figures at the event included Om Singh Lakhawat, the Tehsildar of Gogunda; Arushi Jain, Assistant Director of the Department of Child Rights; Rajkumar Jeengar, District Child Protection Officer; Navneet Audichya, District Child Helpline Officer; Pratap Singh, Superintendent of Police for Women and Child Development Department; and representatives from the District Legal Services Authority. Senior program officers from Childline India, Rajesh Sharma, Ashish Chaudhary, and Vikas Dubey, were also present.

The program shed light on crucial topics related to child marriage, including the legal prohibition of child marriage under the Child Marriage Restraint Act and its implications. Childline 1098 representatives provided valuable information on various aspects related to child rights and the detrimental effects of child marriage on girls.
