#### Career Point University Law Student Observes Judicial Proceedings at Singapore Supreme Court

Kota,  Sushri Sadaf Akhtar, a student of the Law College at Career Point University, Kota, had the opportunity to witness and understand the judicial procedures at the Supreme Court of Singapore. During her observation, she studied the court’s case hearings, advocacy practices, judicial decision-making processes, and overall court management.

Sadaf explored the structure and efficiency of Singapore’s judiciary. She learned that the legal year in the Republic of Singapore begins every January on the first Saturday, marked by a grand event attended by judges and lawyers. The Supreme Court of Singapore, headed by Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon, comprises 29 appellate judges who handle all types of legal cases.

The Supreme Court currently operates from a new building in Singapore, where over 6,000 cases are heard and resolved annually—resulting in minimal case pendency. According to Singapore’s legal framework, around 90% of criminal cases in lower courts result in convictions, as the police present cases only after thorough investigation and solid evidence. Other frequently addressed cases include family, commercial, property, and drug-related disputes.

Interestingly, a Singapore Supreme Court judge once overturned a ruling by former Chief Justice of India, Dipak Misra, criticizing it as a mere "copy-paste" decision—an instance that sparked significant debate in international judicial circles regarding the credibility of Indian judicial verdicts.

Sadaf Akhtar’s exposure to such a reputed judicial system is considered a significant step toward understanding global legal practices and enhancing her legal acumen.
