Udaipur, Rajasthan – A shocking case of large-scale electoral fraud has come to light in Badgaon Gram Panchayat under Gogunda Assembly constituency, where hundreds of bogus (fake) voters have been found on the electoral rolls. In one instance, as many as 700 voters were shown registered at a single house, despite the fact that no such residents actually live there.
The matter was raised by Panchayat Administrator Sanjay Sharma and Panchayat Samiti Member Bhuvanesh Vyas during the district-level public hearing on Thursday. They submitted a formal complaint to District Collector and District Election Officer Namit Mehta, demanding physical verification of voters, deletion of fake names, and strict legal action against the responsible Booth Level Officers (BLOs).
According to the complaint, bogus entries are spread across several parts of the Gogunda constituency (Assembly No. 149), specifically in voter list segments 265, 266, 267, 268, 269, 270, 271, and 272. In Bandinal area, house number 111 of segment 267 alone showed nearly 700 voters, while another house (No. 82) contained around 300 names.
Interestingly, the polling booth of segment 267 recorded the lowest voter turnout in the entire district at only 37.15% in the recent elections—indicating that the majority of registered names were fake.
Representatives alleged that these fraudulent additions were made in collusion with government employees. They urged the Collector to initiate immediate deletion of bogus names and to take punitive action against negligent BLOs under the Election Commission’s legal framework.
Expressing shock, the complainants stated that such large-scale manipulation in voter lists, especially in a Panchayat so close to the city, is both alarming and unacceptable.
