Udaipur, A five-day international Hands-on MIS Pediatric and Neonatal Workshop concluded successfully on Friday at Pacific Medical College and Hospital (PMCH). The workshop was jointly organized by the Department of Pediatric Surgery at PMCH and the Indian Association of Pediatric Surgeons (IAPS), Rajasthan Chapter.
Pediatric surgeons from across the country participated in the advanced training program, focusing on the latest Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) techniques for treating complex conditions in newborns and children.
Addressing the valedictory session, experts emphasized that MIS—commonly known as keyhole or endoscopic surgery—has emerged as a major breakthrough in pediatric care. Procedures that earlier required large incisions in delicate newborn bodies can now be performed through millimeter-sized openings using high-end cameras and precision instruments. This advancement significantly reduces pain, shortens hospital stays, ensures faster recovery, and minimizes visible scarring.
Organizing Secretary Dr. Praveen Jhanwar informed that during the workshop, live demonstrations of highly complex and sensitive procedures were conducted. These included thoracoscopic Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH) repair, laparoscopic pyeloplasty for ureteric obstruction, laparoscopic partial nephrectomy, and laparoscopic pull-through surgeries.
The surgeries were broadcast live from the operation theatre to the auditorium, enabling young surgeons to interact directly with experts, ask questions, and gain in-depth understanding of surgical nuances.
The workshop featured distinguished faculty, including chief guest Dr. Ashwin Pimpalwar from Virginia, USA. Other eminent surgeons who performed live surgeries and shared their expertise included Dr. Rahul Saxena from AIIMS Jodhpur, Dr. Ramesh Tingle from Jaipur, Dr. Sameer Mehta from Kota, and Dr. Charu Yadav from Varanasi. Through case studies, they discussed potential intraoperative challenges and their prompt management.
Chairman Rahul Agrawal congratulated the Pediatric Surgery Department and the organizing committee for the successful event. He stated that PMCH’s vision has always been to bring global advancements and modern medical technologies to the Mewar region. “Doctors trained in these advanced techniques will directly benefit patients. Now, families in Mewar will not need to travel to metropolitan cities for complex pediatric surgeries,” he said.
Among those present were PMCH Principal Dr. U.S. Parihar, Organizing Chairman Dr. Renu Rao, Dr. Gaurav Wadhawan, Joint Secretary Dr. Dhaval Sharma, and several other senior doctors.
