Mumbai : Actress Taapsee Pannu and writer-producer Kanika Dhillon have emerged as one of the most distinctive creative partnerships in contemporary Hindi cinema. Their collaboration has consistently brought together strong storytelling and compelling performances, while exploring diverse genres and placing complex, powerful women at the centre of the narrative.
The duo first collaborated on Anurag Kashyap’s Manmarziyaan (2018), in which Taapsee portrayed Rumi, a free-spirited and independent woman navigating love and relationships. They followed it with the streaming success Haseen Dillruba (2021), which established their partnership in the dark, unconventional thriller space.
The same year, they reunited for the sports drama Rashmi Rocket, with Taapsee playing an athlete confronting gender discrimination and controversial gender-testing practices in sports.
Their collaboration subsequently expanded to Rajkumar Hirani’s immigration drama Dunki (2023), followed by Phir Aayi Haseen Dillruba (2024), which continued the popular pulp-thriller franchise.
Now, the two are teaming up for their sixth project, Gandhari, marking a major shift into the high-octane revenge action-thriller genre. Taapsee plays a mother who embarks on a relentless fight for justice and revenge for her child.
Talking about the collaboration, Kanika Dhillon said that Gandhari is an intense, emotionally charged, mother-led action thriller. She described it as their first collaboration on a raw action-thriller and said she enjoyed both writing and producing the story. Praising Taapsee’s commitment, Dhillon said the actress had given her “heart and soul” to every frame of the film and expressed excitement about audiences seeing her in a completely different and powerful avatar.
From romantic drama and dark thrillers to sports drama, immigration stories and now revenge action, the six-project collaboration between Dhillon and Pannu reflects their shared willingness to experiment and push creative boundaries. Their continued focus on unconventional narratives and strong female-led characters has become a defining feature of their partnership.
