Udaipur: Tribal Area Development Commissioner and prominent promoter of lacrosse Pragya Kevalramani felicitated members of the Indian lacrosse team from Rajasthan’s tribal areas for their impressive performance at the recently concluded South Eastern Asian Lacrosse Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Congratulating the players, Kevalramani said representing India at an international sporting event and winning a medal for the country was a matter of immense pride. She also conveyed the best wishes extended by Rajasthan Governor Haribhau Bagde, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, Tribal Development Minister Babulal Kharadi and Udaipur MP Dr. Mannalal Rawat, among other public representatives.
Rajasthan’s Tribal Players Shine on International Stage
Nine women players from Rajasthan’s tribal areas represented the Indian women’s team under the guidance of coach Neeraj Batra and manager Shehzad Khan. They included captain Dali Gameti, Sunita Meena, Yashishtha Batra, Jula Kumari Gurjar, Meera Dauja, Vishakha Meghwal, Yashoda Gameti, Roshni Bose and Janvi Rathore.
The women’s team displayed strong coordination, discipline and determination throughout the tournament and secured the bronze medal, bringing recognition to India and Rajasthan.
In the men’s category, six players from Rajasthan’s tribal areas—Mohanlal Gameti, Nishant Nagda, Khumaram Gameti, Narayan Lal Gameti, Dayashankar Gameti and Shahid Khan—represented India and delivered impressive performances against strong international teams.
Government Support Creating Better Opportunities
The players and their parents credited the Rajasthan government’s sports and tribal development initiatives, along with continued encouragement and facilities, for their progress. They expressed gratitude for financial assistance provided by Rajasthan Mines and Minerals Limited, support from the Udaipur administration and essential facilities extended by the Tribal Area Development Department.
The parents said talented players from rural and tribal communities have the potential to excel at national and international levels when provided with proper training, resources, guidance and opportunities.
Lacrosse Gaining Recognition in Rajasthan
Lacrosse has witnessed growing interest among players in Rajasthan in recent years. The emergence of athletes from tribal areas at national and international competitions is being seen as an important milestone for the sport’s development in the state.
Commissioner Kevalramani praised the players for their dedication and said their achievement was not only a personal success but also a matter of pride for Rajasthan, Udaipur and the tribal community. She encouraged them to continue their hard work and discipline and expressed confidence that they would win more medals for India in future international competitions.
