Two-Day National Conference on "Folk Theatre and Its Aesthetic Language" Concludes at the Bhartiya Lok Kala Mandal

The two-day national conference on "Folk Theatre and Its Aesthetic Language" concluded at the Bhartiya Lok Kala Mandal in memory of the founder, late Padma Shri Devi Lal Samar, on December 9 and 10, 2023.

Dr. Laik Hussain, Director of the Bhartiya Lok Kala Mandal, informed that the Rajasthan Sahitya Akademi, Udaipur, organized the conference with a focus on the subject of "Folk Theatre and Its Aesthetic Language" during the second day of the event. The second session and concluding session were presided over by Dr. Jeevan Singh, a distinguished literary figure and connoisseur of folk arts. Mr. Upendra Anu delivered a reading on Rajasthan's folk theatres during the conference.

In his presentation, Mr. Upendra Anu detailed the various folk dramas in Rajasthan, shedding light on their history, performance, and the contribution of artists. Following the session, Dr. Jeevan Singh, as the session chair, provided a critique of the papers presented during the conference. He delved into the history of Ram Leela and Ali Bakhsh Khyal in Rajasthan, discussing their performances, compositions, and contributions in both prose and poetry.

During the concluding session, Chief Guest Dr. Dev Kothari, former President of the Rajasthan Bhasha, Sahitya, and Sanskriti Academy, underscored the importance of preserving the rich heritage of folk theatre. He emphasized the need for ongoing research, conferences, and seminars to ensure the protection and promotion of these art forms. Kishan Dadhich, a renowned poet and thinker, also expressed the importance of such gatherings, encouraging continued exploration and understanding of the vibrant facets of folk theatres.

In his closing remarks, Dr. Laik Hussain expressed gratitude to all scholars, audience members, and artists who participated in the conference, highlighting the success of the event in bringing forth the living examples of folk theatres.
