Udaipur: The Rajasthan Sahitya Academy organized a celebration to mark the birth anniversary of the literary giant Munshi Premchand. Dr. Krishna Kumar Sharma, the chairperson of the event, emphasized in his address that Premchand regarded literature as a weapon. He viewed literature, society, and politics as interconnected. His works serve as vocal documents of contemporary consciousness. Dr. Sharma discussed in detail Premchand’s novels like "Nirmala," "Godan," "Karmabhumi," and "Gaban."
At the beginning of the program, Academy Secretary Dr. Basant Singh Solanki welcomed the guests and shed light on the academy’s activities and various initiatives, urging more participation from literary figures. Iqbal Hussain Iqbal presented the Saraswati Vandana. The guests were welcomed by Dr. Basant Singh Solanki, Dr. Prakash Nebhnani, and Dinesh Arora.
Dr. Tarana Parveen, in her address, highlighted how Premchand depicted societal discrimination in his writings, whether it was related to women, Dalits, or other classes, presenting their realities candidly. She also recited excerpts from some of Premchand’s notable works. Dr. Lalit Shrimali mentioned that Premchand’s writing started with Urdu and transitioned from idealism to realism, connecting literature with the common people. Dr. Sarwat Khan remarked that Premchand's literature aimed at improving society and governance, raising questions that remain relevant today, reflecting his unfulfilled dreams. Dr. Kundan Mali noted that Premchand’s literature portrays the life of the common people.
On this occasion, the academy honored several individuals for their significant contributions to the promotion of Hindi language and literature globally. The honorees included Dr. Madhu Khandelwal Madhur, Kiran Bala Kiran, Sunita Jain Rupam, Sunita Pancheri, Manoharlal Shrimali, Nandita Ravi Chauhan, Payal Gupta Pehal, Deepshikha Kshetrapal, and Pushpa Kshetrapal.
Other dignitaries present included Dr. Lakshminarayan Nandwana, Dr. Manju Chaturvedi, Madhu Agarwal, Lokesh Choubisa, Ramdayal Mehar, Nirmala Sharma Nilofar, Shrenidan Charan, B. Dutt Shukla, Jyotipunja, Husaini Bohra, Kiran Acharya, Ashok Manthan, Pushkar Gupteshwar, Vijay Prakash Viplavi, Balmukund Nandwana, Sunil Tank, Vijaylakshmi Detha, Jagdish Paliwal, Anandraj Mathur, Suryaprakash Suhalka, and Himanshu Pandya.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Rajesh Mehta and was conducted by Dr. Kirti Chundawat.
