Revival of Rana Pratap Station Well

Udaipur: The well located at Rana Pratap Nagar Railway Station has shown remarkable improvement in both water level and quality, thanks to the rooftop rainwater harvesting system installed by Bharat Vikas Parishad Subhash Branch, Udaipur, in 2012. Due to this initiative, the water level has risen from a deep 110 feet to just 45 feet, and the TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) level has dropped significantly from 1100 mg/l to 533 mg/l, indicating improved water quality.

Every year on World Water Day (March 22), the Parishad performs a traditional ritual at the well. As part of Environment Fortnight, 20 members of the Parishad carried out a cleanliness drive around the well.

During the program, Monika Rathore from the Groundwater Department spoke on the theme “From Karmabhoomi to Matrubhoomi,” and Yashika Salvi from Salumber was also present.

Dr. P.C. Jain, the Provincial Water Conservation In-Charge, recited inspiring poems titled “Ae Mere Pyare Vatan, Tujh Par Jal Qurbaan” and “Varsha Ki Har Boond Ghar-Ghar Mein Bachayenge, Apne Pradesh Ko Panidaar Banayenge.”

To increase the life of the rooftop rainwater harvesting system, it was given a white paint coating, which helps it continue to channel rainwater into the well efficiently.

The Parishad has requested railway officials to recognize the potential of this neglected well and support its full restoration and productive use.

On World Environment Day, the Subhash Branch organized another clean-up drive near the well (adjacent to the Shiva temple at the station). Around 20 members participated, collecting a full trolley of waste, which was handed over to the Municipal Council.

The drive was led by Environment Coordinator Shri Karan Mal Jaroli and included key members:

President: Ranjit Lal Jain

Secretary: Shobhalal Dashora

Treasurer: Nirbhay Singh Babel

Dr. Rishabh Kumar Jain, Dr. P.C. Jain, Dr. Nagendra Prasad Sharma, Dr. S.K. Maheshwari, Nirmal Madavat, Ravi Chittoda, Bhajanlal Goyal, Brahm Shankar Kaushik, Ranjit Singh Chandalia, Chandraprakash Doshi, along with staff from the Rajasthan Groundwater Department.

The program concluded with Shri Jaroli sharing valuable insights on how to protect the environment and raise the groundwater level effectively.
