New Delhi/Rajasthan Legislative Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani, during his visit to Germany on Monday, visited the under-construction Ganesh Temple in Berlin.
Devnani offered prayers and performed rituals in front of the installed idols at the temple site, seeking happiness and prosperity for the state and the nation. He observed the temple premises and reviewed the progress of idol installations and other construction-related activities. Expressing his appreciation, he lauded the initiative of building such a spiritual structure in Berlin.
During the visit, Devnani held discussions with temple trustee Mr. Vilvanathan Krishnamurthy regarding the temple’s development. The trustee informed him that the Ganesh Temple in Berlin was founded in 2006 and has become a significant center for Sanatan (eternal) tradition in the region. Once completed, the temple will serve as a venue for various spiritual events such as religious ceremonies, weddings, housewarmings, and other rituals.
It was conveyed to Devnani that this will be Germany’s largest Hindu temple. Construction began in 2005 and is expected to be completed by 2023. The temple is being built strictly in accordance with Sanatan, spiritual, traditional, Vedic, and Agamic scriptures, serving as a symbol of Indian culture and heritage.
The temple representatives shared that the project is the fruition of Mr. Krishnamurthy’s vision, who arrived in Berlin five decades ago with a dream to establish a temple. The construction is being entirely funded through public support, without any government assistance. The temple is not only a site for spiritual practice but also a vibrant cultural center for the Indian diaspora in Berlin, particularly for the Tamil-origin community. Built using traditional Vedic and Agamic architectural principles, the temple stands as a sacred and cultural hub for Indians in Germany.
Devnani performed prayers within the temple premises and gained insights into its architectural design and ongoing activities. He praised the cultural and social initiatives undertaken by the temple trust and remarked, “This temple is a magnificent representation of India’s Sanatan culture, spirituality, and devotion. It brings a living presence of Indian values on German soil.” He further emphasized that the temple plays a crucial role in strengthening Indo-German cultural relations. He extended his best wishes to all workers and contributors involved in the temple’s construction.
