Democracy Fighters Felicitated on Completion of 50 Years of Emergency

Democracy Strengthened by Emergency Era Heroes – MP Dr. Rawat

Udaipur, On the occasion of 50 years since the declaration of Emergency, a felicitation ceremony for democracy fighters was held at RTDC Hotel Kajri on Wednesday under the directions of the State Government. The event was organized by the Udaipur district administration, with Udaipur MP Dr. Mannalal Rawat as the chief guest. Udaipur Rural MLA Mr. Phool Singh Meena and former Assembly Speaker Mr. Shantilal Chaplot graced the occasion as special guests.

Of the 55 listed MISA detainees and their dependents in the district, 45 were present and honored at the ceremony.

At the outset, ADM City Mr. War Singh welcomed the guests and informed that the state government is offering support to democracy fighters by providing a monthly pension of ₹20,000 and a medical allowance of ₹4,000.

In his address, MP Dr. Rawat stated that the democracy fighters endured severe torture during the Emergency. Their sacrifices not only reinforced the roots of democracy but also laid the foundation for the vision of a developed India by 2047 and the spirit of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas. He appreciated the state government for recognizing their contribution during the Amrit Kaal of India's independence.

Former Speaker Mr. Shantilal Chaplot shared the hardships he faced during his imprisonment in the Emergency and reflected on that time as a real test of democracy and of the people's inner strength.

As subject experts, historian Dr. Baludan Barath and Professor Dr. Saroj Kumar elaborated on the background of the Emergency, its socio-political impacts, and the emergence of democratic consciousness from that era.

On behalf of the democracy fighters, Mr. Saubhagya Singh Nahar extended gratitude to the state government. The program was anchored by Mr. Manoj Geetankar, and Mr. Fateh Singh provided notable assistance.

MISA Dependents Honored:
Prem Lata (wife of Shyamlal Sukhwal), Damyanti (wife of Kishanlal Sharma), and Jamna Devi (wife of Ashok Kumar).

Absent:
Gulabchand Kataria, Kailash Meghwal, Tarachand Jain, and 7 other democracy fighters could not attend the ceremony.
