Railway Minister Reviews Safety Measures Amid Personal Loss; 11 Major Decisions Taken

15-Day Safety Inspection Drive Launched at LC Gates

New Delhi, – A 15-day safety inspection drive has been launched at level crossing (LC) gates located in block sections across the railway network.

Despite the recent demise of his father and ongoing funeral responsibilities, the Railway Minister conducted a thorough review of railway safety arrangements today via phone, focusing particularly on the safety of Level Crossing gates. During this review, he took 11 significant decisions to enhance safety:

Installation of CCTV cameras and recording systems at all LC gates, with reliable power supply through solar panels, battery backups, and UPS. The work will be completed in mission mode.

A policy review will be conducted to convert gates “Closed to Road Traffic” into gates “Open to Road Traffic.”

Interlocking work at LC gates will be expedited in mission mode.

Railway PSUs will be involved in interlocking and construction work.

The TVU (Train Vehicle Unit) threshold has been reduced from 20,000 to 10,000 for initiating interlocking.

All gates with TVU above 10,000 will now mandatorily require interlocking, regardless of ROB/RUB/LHS plans.

At non-interlocked gates, two random voice recording checks per division will be conducted daily.

Functionality of the voice logger systems at non-interlocked gates must be confirmed by all Divisional Railway Managers (DRMs).

Speed breakers and warning boards at all LC gates will be standardized and necessary improvements will be made.

Construction of LHS/RUB/ROB will be accelerated to eliminate LC gates.

A list will be compiled of gates where public resistance or manhandling incidents occur, and RPF/Home Guard deployment will be ensured at those locations.

This initiative is expected to greatly enhance the safety and efficiency of railway operations across the country.
