Melodious Celebration of Classical Music on Guru Purnima

Udaipur:A soulful evening of classical music unfolded on the occasion of Guru Purnima and the 22nd death anniversary of Pt. Jagannath Prasad, under the joint aegis of Pt. Jagannath Prasad Smriti Manch and Sangeet Natya Niketan. The musical tribute was held at their Bhopalpura centre and saw participation from both budding and established artists.

The evening began with a graceful Kathak performance by young artist Arpita Sharma, who showcased traditional elements such as Aamad, Tode, Paran, and Kavitt, receiving appreciation for her expressive footwork and rhythm.

Following this, a mesmerizing jugalbandi was presented by young sitarist Vipin Soni and flautist Saloni Tank. Their rendition in Raag Hansdhwani included a Madhyalaya Gat and concluded with a lively Jhala, leaving the audience spellbound.

In the segment of featured artists, Pt. Pankaj Rao enthralled the audience with his classical vocal performance, beginning with Raag Jog and culminating in Raag Miyan ki Malhar, highlighting the distinctive style of the Bhindi Bazaar Gharana.

Renowned Santoor player Pt. Ramkrishna Bose offered a soulful tribute to Pt. Jagannath Prasad through his Santoor recital, adding depth and emotion to the evening.

The program’s chief guest, Shri Dharm Narayan Joshi, lauded the efforts of the organizers and congratulated all the performers. Hiralal Soni and Pt. Ramkrishna Bose graced the occasion as special guests, sharing their thoughts and blessings, especially for the emerging talents.

The evening concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mrs. Shikha Behl, Director of Shruti – The School of Music, who expressed her gratitude to the guests and participants. The event was seamlessly anchored by Mrs. Heena Pathik.

The event stood as a harmonious blend of tradition, tribute, and talent – a true celebration of Guru-Shishya parampara through the art of Indian classical music.
