Carrying the voice of India to the global library community, Dr. Deepak Kumar Shrivastava, Head & Divisional Library President, Government Public Mandal Library, Kota, and Nodal Officer (Kota Division), participated in the First IFLA Government Libraries Welcome Meeting held on August 8, 2025.
The meeting proved to be a dynamic platform for deep engagement, offering insights into IFLA’s worldwide initiatives, organizational structure, and future roadmap. Discussions highlighted the pivotal role government libraries play in ensuring information accessibility, fostering transparency, and nurturing an informed and aware civil society.
During the session, Dr. Shrivastava shared details of his “Signature Project” — an innovative initiative aimed at transforming public libraries into inclusive, digital-friendly spaces, with special focus on accessibility for the visually impaired, nomadic communities, and marginalized groups. He also briefed participants on the proposed Satellite Meetings and International Collaborative Programs under IFLA’s Government Libraries section, designed to promote experience sharing and policy dialogue among the global library fraternity.
Reflecting on the experience, Dr. Shrivastava remarked,
“It is an honour to engage with global library leaders. IFLA Government Libraries offers a stage where ideas meet action, and the course for the future is set. I am committed to contributing to this journey with innovation and dedication.”
His active participation marks a significant step in positioning India as a thought leader in promoting inclusive library models on the global front.
