Special Significance of Pratikraman During Paryushan Festival

Pratikraman is the Atonement of Sins – Dr. Mahendra Sojatia

Udaipur. The Paryushan Parva of the Jain Shwetambar community is being observed from 20th to 27th August with devotion and spiritual fervor. Among the various religious rituals performed during these sacred eight days, the evening ritual of Pratikraman holds a place of great importance.

Dr. Mahendra Sojatia explained that Pratikraman is a spiritual practice that helps the soul turn away from negative emotions and align itself with positive thoughts. During this process, one reflects upon and criticizes the sins committed knowingly or unknowingly in the past, and makes a solemn vow not to repeat them in the future.

Performing Pratikraman in the Presence of Monks and Nuns

Dr. Sojatia emphasized that ideally, Pratikraman should be performed every evening of the Paryushan period in the presence of Jain monks and nuns. However, for those unable to attend in person, online and broadcast platforms provide a way to participate.

Availability Through Digital and Live Broadcasts

He further shared that the complete ritual of Pratikraman can be viewed on the YouTube channel – ‘Jain Pratikraman by Dr. Mahendra Sojatia’. In addition, live telecasts will also be available on DEN Mewar 151, Udaipur News-In Cable 258, News 91, and several other regional television channels.

Thus, Pratikraman serves not only as a means of atonement for sins but also as a pathway to purify and elevate the soul.
