Rising Dengue and Malaria Risks Prompt Community Alert

Paras Health Udaipur Issues Monsoon Advisory

Udaipur, Paras Health Udaipur has urged citizens to remain vigilant and adopt preventive measures as Rajasthan enters the most vulnerable phase of the monsoon season. While mosquito-borne diseases have shown a decline in recent years, doctors have cautioned that dengue and malaria continue to pose seasonal threats, particularly for children and the elderly, who remain at higher risk.

According to Rajasthan’s Health Department, a total of 385 dengue cases have been reported so far this year, which is significantly lower compared to the past five years. Encouragingly, no fatalities have been recorded. However, fresh concerns have emerged with the onset of the monsoon. Between July 30 and August 8, 73 new dengue cases were confirmed, with districts such as Udaipur, Jaipur, Ajmer, Kota, Jhunjhunu, and Kotputli reporting around ten patients collectively.

Officials have cautioned that unchecked mosquito breeding could lead to a rapid surge in cases. Malaria is also showing an upward trend during the monsoon. By the end of June, 263 malaria cases had been documented in Rajasthan, a sharp drop compared to 2,213 cases recorded in 2024. Despite the reduced numbers, experts at Paras Health have warned that negligence could reverse this progress. Udaipur continues to remain on the list of high-risk districts for malaria during the rainy season.

Municipal Corporation teams are already conducting larvicide spraying and door-to-door awareness drives to curb mosquito breeding. Paras Health specialists have highlighted common monsoon fever symptoms such as high fever, persistent vomiting, rashes, and fatigue, adding that children tend to deteriorate quickly, while elderly patients and those with compromised immunity are more vulnerable.

To address the seasonal risk, the hospital has activated a Monsoon Fever Protocol, which includes rapid diagnostics, platelet monitoring, and separate treatment lanes for children and senior citizens, ensuring timely medical intervention.

Doctors emphasized that prevention remains the most effective strategy. Citizens have been advised to clear stagnant water after rains, cover tanks and containers, use mosquito repellents and nets, and seek medical advice if fever persists beyond 24–48 hours. The hospital has strongly warned against self-medication, stressing that timely diagnosis can prevent minor ailments from escalating into life-threatening conditions.

While authorities confirmed that the burden of dengue and malaria is currently under control in Rajasthan, Paras Health Udaipur has cautioned that the weeks immediately following heavy rains are the most critical for outbreaks. The hospital has appealed for collective community participation and heightened vigilance to prevent a surge in cases.
