Demand to Declare Dry Day on Eid Milad-un-Nabi

Kota, Under the leadership of Haider Ali, newly appointed City District Vice President of the Muslim Mahasabha, a protest was held at the Kota Collectorate. A memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister of Rajasthan was submitted to the District Collector demanding closure of liquor shops on the occasion of Eid Milad-un-Nabi.

The delegation stated that on January 21, 2013, following a peaceful demonstration, the then government had issued order no. P.4(17) Finance/Abkari/2004 declaring Eid Milad-un-Nabi as a dry day across Rajasthan. However, after the change of government, the decision was withdrawn, which, according to them, is not only unjust but also an insult to religious sentiments.

They emphasized that Eid Milad-un-Nabi marks the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), who preached peace, brotherhood, and abstinence from social evils. He declared alcohol consumption forbidden, as in pre-Islamic times drinking was widespread, leading people astray into immoral activities. The Prophet guided people towards a righteous path. Protesters argued that banning liquor is not only beneficial for the Muslim community but for society at large.

The memorandum urged the government to kindly declare a one-day dry day (liquor prohibition) on Eid Milad-un-Nabi.

The protest saw participation from Sirat Committee’s Niyaz Nikku Bhai, Rafiq Bumbia, Muslim Mahasabha State General Secretary Anis Rain, Shahrukh Hussain, Sohel Tanveer, Shakeel Ahmed, Raja Warsi, Munna Bhai, Iqbal Bhai, Javed Bhai, Nadeem Raza, Danish Ansari, Ashfaq Bhai, Jaki Bhai, Kalu Nadeem, Councilor Sonu Abbasi, and other peace-loving members of the city.
