15 Litterateurs Honored on 175th Birth Anniversary of Bharatendu Harishchandra

Kota,  On the occasion of the 175th birth anniversary of Bharatendu Harishchandra, regarded as the pioneer of modern Hindi literature, a grand felicitation ceremony was organized on Tuesday by Bharatendu Samiti at Maheshwari Bhawan, Kota. A total of 15 eminent litterateurs from different parts of the country were honored with Sahityashri Samman, which included a citation, memento, shawl, Kota saree, and a garland of pearls.

Among the recipients, Rachna Majumdar of New Delhi was conferred with the Hanuman Prasad Saxena Hindi Samman, while Manoj Gautam of Kota received the Sudhashri Samman. The Sahityashri honor was bestowed upon Dr. Aarti Verma (Kanpur), Dr. Manisha Sharma, Dr. Yugal Singh, Dr. Himani Bhatia, Manu Vashishta, Ram Mohan Kaushik, Vivek Shankar, Kalicharan Rajput, Jodhraj Parihar, Deepak Sharma, Durga Shankar Vaishnav, Shikha Agrawal (Bhilwara), Vishwanath Tanwar (Sardarshahar), Ardash Nandan Gupta (Agra), and Padam Godha (Gurugram).

The program also featured the release of the Samiti’s quarterly journal Chidambara and the book Tumhare Geet authored by lyricist and writer Ramesh Chandra ‘Anil’.

Addressing the gathering, Committee President Harikrishna Birla stated that Bharatendu Harishchandra transformed Hindi into not just a medium of expression but also a powerful instrument of national consciousness and social awakening. Program Coordinator Krishna Birla emphasized that Bharatendu sowed the seeds of modernity upon the healthy traditions of literature, earning the title of the ‘Father of Modern Hindi Literature’. BJP leader Pankaj Mehta highlighted that the modern era of Hindi literature is traced back to Bharatendu, while writer Vipul Saxena remarked that he successfully linked literature with social concerns for public awakening.

The event was attended by dignitaries including Mayor Rajeev Agrawal, BJP District Rural President Prem Gochar, and several eminent poets and writers. Shikha Agrawal, along with other awardees, also recited poems during the ceremony.
