Pune: Amazon India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Army Welfare Placement Organisation (AWPO), an institution under the Indian Army, aimed at providing career opportunities to ex-servicemen, spouses of serving soldiers, and widows of martyrs. The partnership underscores Amazon’s commitment to leveraging the exceptional skills of the military community and facilitating their smooth integration into civilian careers through tailored recruitment, training, and development programs.
Under this agreement, Amazon India will collaborate with AWPO to share information about relevant job openings and recruitment drives targeting three key segments of the military community: ex-servicemen, spouses of serving personnel, and war widows. The initiative will also include awareness sessions, webinars, and workshops to guide applicants about available career opportunities and growth prospects within the company.
Dipti Verma, VP – People Experience and Technology, Amazon Stores India, Japan & Emerging Markets, said:
“At Amazon, we are committed to building a diverse workforce and fostering an inclusive workplace. Ex-servicemen and their spouses bring leadership, focus, and a results-oriented mindset that aligns perfectly with Amazon’s culture of operational excellence. This partnership with AWPO is a significant step towards providing meaningful career opportunities to military personnel, their spouses, and war widows, matching their skills and experience. We are grateful to the Indian Army for enabling this strategic collaboration.”
This collaboration aligns with Amazon’s global initiatives such as the Military Spouse Fellowship Program and Military Hiring Program, which offer mentorship and career opportunities to military families. Through these programs, ex-servicemen and their spouses receive guidance, professional development, and pathways to corporate positions.
Major General Ajay Singh Chauhan, Shaurya Chakra, Sena Medal (Retd.), Managing Director, AWPO, said:
“AWPO is dedicated to the welfare of soldiers and their families. This partnership with Amazon India strengthens our mission to provide employment opportunities to soldiers, their spouses, and war widows, enabling them to achieve economic independence while recognizing their exceptional skills. We sincerely appreciate Amazon for creating a platform that acknowledges and nurtures military talent.”
Currently, hundreds of ex-servicemen are employed at Amazon India, supported through interview preparation, mentorship networks like Warriors at Amazon, and career development opportunities specifically designed for military families. This initiative reinforces Amazon’s commitment to building an inclusive workplace that provides opportunities to women, differently-abled individuals, LGBTQIA+ community members, ex-servicemen, and their families.
Sharing her experience, Priyanka Bali, Senior Product Manager, Amazon Devices, and a soldier’s spouse, said:
“Being a soldier’s wife comes with unique challenges, especially while relocating frequently and managing a career. Amazon’s flexibility and support have allowed me to honor my family’s military commitments while building a stable and fulfilling career. I feel empowered to work in a company that truly understands and values the contributions of military families.”
