Udaipur: Under the aegis of the Rajasthan State Legal Services Authority, Jaipur, a quarterly inspection of the Central Jail and Women’s Prison, Udaipur, was conducted under the supervision of the District Legal Services Authority Chairman and District & Sessions Judge Gyan Prakash Gupta. The inspection was led by Additional District & Sessions Judges Manish Kumar Vaishnav and Kuldeep Sharma, along with the Visitors Board.
According to Secretary of the Authority and ADJ Sharma, the Visitors Board included members such as ADM Dipendra Singh Rathore, Junior Engineer PWD Rajpal Singh, City Superintendent Purv Chhagan Rajpurohit, Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr. Shankar Bamania, Joint Director of Social & Legal Empowerment Department Girish Bhatnagar, and ADEO Muralidhar Chaubisa. Central Jail Superintendent Rajpal Singh and other jail officials were also present. The Women’s Prison was similarly inspected by the Visitors Board.
During the inspection of the Central Jail, it was observed that the number of inmates exceeds the facility’s capacity. Several toilet seats in the barracks were found broken. Inmates reported difficulty sleeping at night due to overcrowding. Poor ventilation in one of the barrack toilets, with no exhaust fan or skylight, caused foul odors to spread.
However, inmates confirmed that the jail provides satisfactory meals and breakfast. They also noted that excellent STD (Sexually Transmitted Disease) facilities are available within the jail.
