200 Artists Showcase Unique Fusion of Northeast Cultures at ‘Octave Mahotsav’

Udaipur / Nagpur, On the third day of the Octave Mahotsav held in Nagpur, nearly 200 artists from the northeastern states of India presented a mesmerizing fusion of traditional dances, offering the audience a vivid glimpse into the rich and distinctive culture of the region. The performance left the spectators enthralled, culminating in thunderous applause that resonated throughout the auditorium.

Organized jointly by the West Zone Cultural Centre (WZCC), Udaipur and the South-Central Zone Cultural Centre (SCZCC), Nagpur under the guidance of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, the North East Festival–Octave is being held at the SCZCC premises and will conclude on Sunday, October 12, at 6 PM.

The event on Saturday was graced by prominent dignitaries including Police Commissioner Dr. Ravindra Singal, Principal Secretary of the State Government Smt. Vinita Singal, CBI Deputy Director Hrishikesh Sonawane, WZCC Assistant Director Durgesh Chandwani, and former Director of SCZCC Dr. Deepak Khirwadkar. The guests were welcomed by the Director of the Centre, Dr. Astha Karlekar.

The artists showcased the diversity of northeastern culture through dances inspired by the spirit of “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat.” Among the highlights was the enchanting Manipuri Ras Leela performed by Dr. Sinam Basu Singh and his troupe, featuring mesmerizing costumes, graceful movements, and harmonious music. This was followed by a spectacular Sattriya dance from Assam, presented by Dimple Setia and her team, which captivated the audience. The Sattriya dance is traditionally performed in Vaishnav monasteries of Assam.

A unique feature of the festival was the depiction of Lord Krishna’s divine leelas, with the Manipuri Ras highlighting his Ras Leela with the Gopis, while the Sattriya dance portrayed his childhood pastimes beautifully. The choreography for these performances was excellently executed by Anam Mahto and Abhilash Sarkar under the guidance of Tarun Pradhan, and the event was hosted by Kishore Galande and Mohita Dixit.
