Dr. Chhayank Honored with North India’s Prestigious Dr. R.K. Solanki & BPSS Awards

Udaipur : Dr. Chhayank Acharya from the Department of Psychiatry, Geetanjali Medical College & Hospital, Udaipur, was conferred with the prestigious “Dr. R.K. Solanki Award” and the “Bombay Psychiatric Society Silver Jubilee Award” at the 50th Annual Conference of the Indian Psychiatric Society – North Zone (IPS-NZ) held in Chandigarh.

The awards recognized the groundbreaking research conducted by Dr. Acharya, along with Dr. Jitendra Jeengar, Dr. Anjali Sharma, and Dr. Tanmay Patel, titled “Prevalence of Emotional and Behavioral Problems, Abuse, Perceived Stress, and Self-Esteem in Orphaned and Non-Orphaned Adolescents: A Comparative Study.”

The study revealed that orphaned adolescents exhibited significantly higher emotional and behavioral problems compared to non-orphaned peers. Approximately 47.8% of orphaned adolescents faced such issues, while only 6.1% of non-orphans did. Emotional difficulties were observed in 45.3% of orphaned adolescents, and peer relationship challenges in 55.3%. High stress levels were present in 11% of orphans, compared to 0.6% in non-orphans. Self-esteem was also notably lower, with 60.2% of orphaned adolescents showing low self-esteem versus 28% among non-orphans. The study further highlighted that childhood maltreatment was linked to increased emotional difficulties and stress, alongside reduced positive social behavior and self-esteem.

This research underscores that orphaned adolescents are emotionally and psychologically more vulnerable, emphasizing the need for specialized psychological support and care to ensure their holistic development
