Ministry of Railways Celebrates 150th Anniversary of ‘Vande Mataram’

New Delhi,On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram, the Ministry of Railways organized a special ceremony at Rail Bhavan on Friday, in coordination with the Ministry of Culture’s year-long commemorative celebrations.

Union Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & Information Technology, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, graced the event along with Member (T&RS) Shri R. Rajgopal, Railway Board Secretary Smt. Aruna Nair, and several senior officers.

As part of the program, a collective rendition of the national song Vande Mataram was held in synchrony with the live broadcast of the main event organized by the Ministry of Culture. Following the group singing, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister Vaishnaw described Vande Mataram as the “proclamation of India’s collective consciousness for the past 150 years,” symbolizing unity, devotion, and national pride.

Commemorative events were also organized across various Railway Zones and Divisions. At Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (Mumbai), a grand celebration was held in the presence of General Manager Shri Vijay Kumar. Similarly, the South Central Railway headquarters at Rail Nilayam resonated with the timeless rhythm of Vande Mataram as General Manager Shri Sanjay Kumar Srivastava, along with senior officials and staff, participated in the collective singing.

At the Northern Railway Headquarters, officials and employees joined together to sing the full version of Vande Mataram, marking 150 glorious years of the song that inspired generations during India’s freedom struggle.

The year 2025 marks the 150th anniversary of Bankim Chandra Chatterjee’s composition of Vande Mataram—a song that has stirred patriotism, pride, and unity among Indians for over a century. Through these celebrations, the Ministry of Railways reaffirmed its commitment to preserving India’s cultural heritage and promoting the spirit of national unity and service.
