Udaipur — Under the aegis of the Directorate of Mines Safety, Udaipur Region, the Mines Safety Association, Udaipur organized Trade Test and First Aid competitions as part of the 49th Mine Safety Week, hosted by Hindustan Zinc Limited at the Zawar Mines. Participants included first aid teams and trade professionals from various organized and unorganized sector open-cast and underground mines. In addition, poster, slogan, and essay writing competitions were also conducted.
The event was graced by Tom Mathew, Director of Mines Safety, Vishal Goyal, Deputy Director of Mines Safety, Anshul Kumar Khandelwal, CEO IBU Zawar Mines, and Jaswant Singh, Senior Vice President of Zawar Mines Workers Union as chief guests. Senior officers from various mines and mining organizations also attended.
Deputy Director Vishal Goyal provided a detailed overview of the Trade Test and First Aid competition schedule, while Anshul Kumar Khandelwal guided participants according to this year’s theme, “Breathe Safely, Beat the Heat, Overcome Silicosis and Heat Stroke”. Director Tom Mathew flagged off the event and inspected the first aid teams, greeting and encouraging them.
The Trade Test witnessed enthusiastic participation from 330 candidates across various trades, including 12 trades from open-cast mines, 16 trades from underground mines, and 6 trades from ore beneficiation plants. A total of 15 first aid teams from different mines participated in the competition.
Vishal Goyal, Deputy Director of Mines Safety, announced the 191 winners of the Trade Test, including first, second, and third positions across all trades. Awards will be presented during the Mine Safety Week closing ceremony in December. Winners of the poster, slogan, and essay competitions were also felicitated.
In the First Aid competition, open-cast category winners were:
1st Place: Aditya Limestone Mines
2nd Place: JK Cement Amalgamated
3rd Place: Birla Cement Limestone Mines
For the underground category, winners were:
1st Place: Zawar Mines Team A
2nd Place: Sindesar Khurd Mines
3rd Place: Volkem Mines
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Ankit Jain of Hindustan Zinc Limited, marking a successful celebration of mine safety and skill development.
