Research on Culturally Inclusive Cognitive Assessment Tools to Be Conducted in India

Udaipur’s Dr. Neha Lodha Selected for Fulbright–Nehru Award

Udaipur.Dr. Neha Lodha, a 43-year-old academic who completed her schooling in Udaipur and is presently serving as an Associate Professor at the College of Health and Human Sciences, Colorado State University, has been selected for this year’s prestigious Fulbright–Nehru Academic and Professional Excellence Award. Under this programme, she will undertake advanced research work in Bengaluru, India.

The purpose of Dr. Lodha’s research is the development and validation of tools designed for individuals affected by Alzheimer’s disease. These tools aim to provide accurate assessment of cognitive impairment among people from any educational or linguistic background. As part of the project, she will travel across multiple Indian states to study the possibilities of dissemination and practical applicability of these tools. She will also collaborate with researchers, clinicians, and community groups throughout the country to ensure that the tools are not only scientifically robust but also culturally relevant and inclusive.

According to Dr. Lodha, this journey will strengthen her ongoing research in the United States that focuses on identifying early indicators of Alzheimer’s disease. In an interview with Professor Vimal Sharma, she stated, “Becoming a Fulbright Scholar is not only an honour but also a significant responsibility. It allows me to represent the United States as a research ambassador, learn from the international scientific community, and bring these experiences back to America.” She added that this achievement is a moment of pride for her students and research team. “Our work linking real-life mobility with brain health is receiving global recognition, and this project highlights how community-based, inclusive science can create meaningful and lasting innovations.”

Professor Vimal Sharma, a post-doctoral scientist from PGI Medical Institute Chandigarh and Germany, congratulated Dr. Lodha on bringing pride not only to Mewar but to the entire nation. He noted that since 1946, Fulbright alumni include 62 Nobel laureates, 93 Pulitzer Prize winners, 82 MacArthur Fellows, 44 Heads of State, and thousands of influential leaders across public, private, and non-profit sectors.
