#### Grand Ghoomar Festival Brings Rajasthan’s Heritage Alive

“Kajal tiki laadyo ai maa… ghoomar ramwa mhain jasyan” echoed through Gandhi Ground as the divisional-level Ghoomar Festival transformed the arena into a vibrant celebration of Rajasthan’s cultural soul.


Organised jointly by the District Administration and the Tourism Department, and inspired by the initiative of Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari, the festival showcased the timeless beauty of Rajasthan’s traditional dance form. Dressed in colourful ethnic attire, hundreds of women and girls swayed gracefully to the melodious rhythms of Ghoomar, creating a breathtaking visual of unity, joy, and heritage.

A Living Canvas of Tradition
From teenagers to elderly women, participants joined with remarkable enthusiasm. According to Tourism Joint Director Sunita Saroch, more than 475 women and young girls took part, making the event truly grand in scale.


The festival formally began with a traditional prayer ceremony led by invited guests, including Rajya Sabha MP Chunnilal Garasiya, Lok Sabha MP Dr. Mannalal Rawat, Zila Pramukh Mamta Kunwar Panwar, Udaipur Rural MLA Phoolsingh Meena, Deputy Zila Pramukh Pushkar Teli, Divisional Commissioner Pragya Kevlramani, former Mayor Rajni Dangi, and social workers Gajpal Singh, Chandragupt Singh Chauhan, Pinky Mandawat, and Khushboo Malviya.

A Moment of Inspiration
Among the many spirited performers, the audience was especially moved by Diya Shrimali, a specially abled girl from Badgaon. Her graceful participation and heartfelt energy drew loud applause, demonstrating that passion knows no barriers. Diya shared that she has loved Ghoomar since childhood and felt proud to find a platform that celebrated her talent.

Honouring Excellence
Outstanding performers were felicitated with cash awards across multiple categories. Deputy Director Shikha Saxena announced the winners:

Best Group Dance:

Winner: Mewar Ke Rang Group – ₹21,000

Runner-up: AlBeli Ghoomar Group – ₹11,000

Best Group Costume:

Winner: Mewar Ke Rang Group – ₹11,000

Runner-up: AlBeli Ghoomar Group – ₹7,000

Best Group Synchronization:

Winner: Meera Prakash Verma Foundation

Runner-up: Mewar Ke Rang Group

Best Group Jewellery:

Winner: Meera Prakash Verma Foundation

Runner-up: Ghoomar Nayika Meera Girls College

Best Group Choreography:

Winner: Mewar Ke Rang

Runner-up: Rangeela Rhythm Group

All winners and runners-up received cash awards of ₹11,000 and ₹7,000 respectively.

The festival not only celebrated the beauty of Ghoomar but also reaffirmed Rajasthan’s rich cultural identity, uniting generations through rhythm, colour, and tradition.
