#### Shikha Agrawal Steps into the World of Translation
“Videsh Pravas aur Hindi Seva” Now Available in English
Kota / Bhilwara. Renowned writer Shikha Agrawal has taken a significant step in the field of translation by rendering Dr. Arpana Pandey’s notable work “Videsh Pravas aur Hindi Seva” into English.
According to translator Shikha Agrawal, Dr. Arpana beautifully preserved the memories of her stay in Dhaka, offering society valuable insights into her efforts for the promotion of Hindi abroad. She believes the book will stand as a milestone in the genre of memoirs, and its English translation will help the work reach a wider readership.
Dr. Arpana Pandey expressed her gratitude to translator Shikha Agrawal and acknowledged the special support of Dr. Prabhat Kumar Singhal during the translation and publication process.
Prominent Kota-based storyteller and critic Vijay Joshi remarked, “Your narrative carries artistic finesse. This work reflects your deep love for Hindi. You have played a remarkable role in promoting Hindi in Bangladesh.”
Dr. Atul Chaturvedi shared that the book holds great literary value without being burdensome to read. He explained that a memoir recreates the past vividly, helping society learn from personal experiences. He added that this memoir details events with dates, creating a sense of authenticity that builds readers’ trust. Living far from home in a place where Hindi holds little significance, Dr. Arpana’s efforts to awaken interest in the language are commendable. He also highlighted her role in publishing the magazine Garima, serving as a cultural ambassador in Bangladesh, and building a bridge between two civilizations. He further noted that this work, written in a diary and travelogue style, fills a void in the non-fiction prose of the Hadoti region.
Senior Hindi and Rajasthani critic Jitendra Nirmohi observed that the tradition of dialogue is weakening today, and praised Arpana ji’s expressive and questioning narrative style. Vishnu Sharma Harihar, President of Akhil Bharatiya Sahitya Parishad, Chittor Province, said the book inspires the spirit of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam.
Reflecting on her journey, Dr. Arpana Pandey shared that she learned immensely during her stay abroad. With no predefined syllabus and only ten students in the beginning, she gradually nurtured a class that grew to hundreds. She taught Hindi at Dhaka University, and two of her students later received opportunities to work with All India Radio. She described her experience as deeply enriching and expressed gratitude to the divine for blessing her with the ability to write.
