Innovative Book Corner Initiative for Primary School Children

Kota – Under the “Mission Bal Man Tak” campaign, an encouraging development has emerged as several panchayat schools have introduced book corners to cultivate literary interest among primary-level children. In a recent interaction, Dr. Vaidehi Gautam shared that selected schools under the Sultanpur Panchayat Samiti have launched these book corners as a creative effort to connect young learners with children’s literature.

During her recent inspection of the Mid-Day Meal programme at Choma Maliyan in the Sultanpur block—covering primary, upper primary and secondary schools—Dr. Gautam, who serves as the Principal of Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Simliya, and ex-officio Panchayat Primary Education Officer, observed this positive initiative.

She expressed delight upon seeing book corners dedicated to students of Classes 1 to 5. Teachers were seen distributing picture storybooks to the children. All students were seated in a circle, listening to stories, asking curious questions based on the illustrations, and participating actively. Dr. Gautam also interacted with the children, asking questions and assessing their understanding of basic language concepts, which they answered correctly.

Highlighting the key features of these book corners, Dr. Gautam noted the presence of a book distribution timetable, a library rules chart, a “Reader of the Week” medal, a children’s library help desk, and a book transaction card box—all thoughtfully prepared. She remarked that such literary corners should be established in every school to encourage children’s interest in reading from an early age.

She also appreciated the efforts of the school head, Ashish Kumar Kaushik, for implementing this meaningful initiative.
