Veteran Bollywood actor Dharmendra, famously known as the “He-Man” of Indian cinema, passed away on Monday, 24th November 2025, at the age of 89. He breathed his last at his residence in Juhu, Mumbai, after a prolonged period of ill health. Earlier, on 12th November, he had been discharged from Breach Candy Hospital on family advice and had been receiving treatment at home since then.

His last rites were performed at Pawan Hans Crematorium, Vile Parle, with the entire Deol family and numerous film industry personalities in attendance. Among them were Hema Malini, Esha Deol, Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, and even Amitabh Bachchan, who were visibly emotional. Dharmendra’s elder son Sunny Deol performed the final rites (Mukhagni).

Dharmendra made his acting debut in 1960 with “Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere”. He gained recognition through films like “Phool Aur Patthar”, “Aaye Din Bahar Ke”, and “I Milan Ki Bela”, with “Phool Aur Patthar” (1966) marking his first major success alongside Meena Kumari. His powerful on-screen persona earned him the title of India’s “He-Man”.

Dharmendra was born as Kewal Krishan Deol on 8th December 1935 in Nasarali village, Ludhiana, Punjab, into a Punjabi Jat family. He spent his early years in Sahnewal village and studied at Government Senior Middle School, Lallton Kalan, where his father served as principal. Over his illustrious career spanning more than 60 years, Dharmendra acted in over 300 films. In the 1990s, he appeared in successful character roles in films such as “Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya”, “Life in A... Metro”, “Apne”, “Johnny Gaddaar”, “Yamla Pagla Deewana”, “Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani”, and “Teri Baato Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya”. His last appearance on screen was in Karan Johar’s “Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani”, and he is set to appear posthumously in Sriram Raghavan’s war drama “Ikkis”, based on the true story of Second Lieutenant Arun Khetrapal, India’s youngest Param Vir Chakra awardee who sacrificed his life in the 1971 India-Pakistan war.
