Skill Enhancement Educational Tour of Students Concludes

Udaipur,A total of 150 students from PM Shri Kendriya Vidyalaya No.1, Pratap Nagar, participated in a skill enhancement educational tour on 27 November 2025 at the All India Coordinated Floriculture Research Project, Horticulture Science Farm of Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology, Udaipur.
The tour was organized under the leadership of Principal Mrs. Pranyaja Soni, accompanied by teachers Krishna Sunariya, Kuldeep, and Sangeeta Chakravarty, who ensured smooth arrangements and discipline. The young learners gained scientific knowledge related to natural landscaping and floriculture techniques.

Project In-charge Prof. Lakshmi Narayan Mahawar gave practical demonstrations on preparing beds for gladiolus cut flowers, corm planting, use of drip irrigation, weed and pest management, and efficient water utilization.
He also explained the significance of annual chrysanthemum cultivation—its role in enhancing natural beauty through landscape design, propagation through terminal cuttings, preparation of plants in polybags, pro-trays, and pots, and the art of bouquet making, garland crafting, and rincine tuscari techniques, through which up to 1,000 flowers can be produced from a single plant.

Students were shown the intensive maintenance unit (net house) where exotic ornamental plants from outside regions are nurtured under controlled conditions for commercial propagation.
Prof. Mahawar further demonstrated the planting of tuberose cut flowers using bulbs in February, suitable for beds, pots, and rooftop gardens, adding fragrance to the environment and serving medicinal uses.

Through live demonstrations, students observed multiple chrysanthemum varieties such as Pusa Gul-dasta, Pusa Sweta, Bidhan Neeta, Bidhan Lalima, Pusa Aditi, and Pusa Chitraksha. They also saw flowering and fruiting stages in rose, drumstick, guava, strawberry, cherry, and sapota plants. The activity included insights into beekeeping—Apis mellifera honey extraction, pollination behaviour of Apis dorsata and Apis cerana in temperate regions, and their role in enhancing fruit and seed production in peach, plum, and other crops.

The tour highlighted the importance of planting ornamental shade trees, shrubs, and vines on barren or unused hilly lands to increase oxygen levels and reduce carbon dioxide in the environment. Students learned how such ecological practices help in increasing populations of beneficial insects like Chrysoperla and dragonflies, which naturally control harmful pests, ensuring crop protection and reducing dependence on chemical farming—thus safeguarding future generations from diseases caused by chemical residues.

Postgraduate students of Rajasthan College of Agriculture, Ravi Suman Saini and Prithviraj Jatolia, supported the event through photography and live recording.

Principal Mrs. Pranyaja Soni expressed heartfelt appreciation to all teachers, students, and the coordinators of the organizing institution for their active participation and support.
