Udaipur: A two-day Traditional Art and Dance Festival commenced on Friday at the auditorium of Lokmanya Tilak Teacher Training College, organized jointly by Janardan Rai Nagar Rajasthan Vidyapeeth and the Academy of Wellbeing Committee.
The inaugural ceremony began with a Saraswati Vandana followed by a special performance by renowned Odissi dancer Shaili Srivastava. Guests also unveiled a poster created by former DIG Preeta Bhargava.
In his presidential address, Vice-Chancellor Prof. S.S. Sarangdevot highlighted the significant role of Indian classical arts and dance in the holistic development of students. He emphasized that these art forms deepen creativity, sensitivity, discipline, concentration, and cultural awareness.
He noted that rhythm, expression, and movement in dance enhance mental balance, confidence, aesthetic sense, and personality development. Engaging with traditional arts fosters pride in Indian cultural values and strengthens the connection between students, society, and heritage.
Prof. Sarangdevot added that Indian arts naturally infuse the mind with joy, peace, and positivity, making life more harmonious. Their practice offers inner happiness and a lasting sense of emotional well-being.
Chief Guest Prof. Hemant Dwivedi shared insights on the diverse art forms and their positive impact on the human mind.
BL Gurjar, Chancellor of Vidyapeeth, spoke about the cultural richness and significance of Indian arts deeply rooted in society and tradition.
Festival Convenor and Dean-Principal Prof. Saroj Garg, in her welcome address, described performing arts as a natural form of creative expression and elaborated on their wide-reaching influence.
The first day of the festival also featured the inauguration of an oil painting exhibition by former DIG Preeta Bhargava. This was followed by the soulful ‘Naad’ presentations by Jyoti Srivastava and Guru Siddharth Kishor, captivating the audience. Classical dance performances and an impressive Kalaripayattu martial art demonstration were also showcased, earning enthusiastic appreciation from attendees.
Prominent artists, dignitaries, students, faculty members, and guests—including Dr. Alpana Singh, Dr. Gayatri Tiwari, Dr. Rachna Rathore, Dr. Balidan Jain, and Dr. Bhuralal Shrimali—were present.
The event was anchored by Dr. Harish Chaubisa, while Dr. Venus Vyas delivered the vote of thanks.
