Senior Rajasthan journalist B.M. Sharma nominated as Press Council member for the third time*

New Delhi/Jaipur, The Government of India has reconstituted the Press Council of India and nominated senior Rajasthan journalist B.M. Sharma as a member of the Press Council for a three-year term. This is Sharma's third term as a member of the Press Council.
According to a notification published in the Government of India Gazette Notification (Gazette) by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Central Government, B.M. Sharma has been nominated as a member of the Press Council of India as a representative of small newspapers. The Council comprises six members representing large, medium, and small newspapers, and three members nominated by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.
Among those involved in the management of large newspapers are Sudhir Kumar Panda (Orissa) and M.V. Shreyams Kumar (Kerala), Gurinder Singh (New Delhi), Arun Kumar Tripathi (Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh) from medium newspapers, and Ms. Aarti Tripathi (Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh) and B.M. Sharma (Jaipur, Rajasthan) from small newspapers have been nominated.
The Speaker of the Lok Sabha has nominated MPs Naresh Ganpat Mhaske (Maharashtra), Kalicharan Munda (Jharkhand), and Dr. Sambit Patra (Orissa) as nominated members. Two more MPs from the Rajya Sabha and one from the Bar Council will be nominated to the Council.
B.M. Sharma, the nominated member from Rajasthan, previously served as a member of the Press Council of India from 1992-95 and from 1995 to 1998. During his tenure, he visited the Press Council of India with the committee formed to investigate the assault on journalists during the demolition of the Babri Masjid and submitted a detailed report to the Central Government, based on which appropriate compensation was provided to the affected journalists and photographers.
