##Mewar in Parliament: 1,62,580 Passport Applications from Udaipur in 9 Years; 1,57,162 Issued

Udaipur. In the past nine years, 1,62,580 residents of Udaipur district applied for passports, out of which 1,57,162 passports have been issued. Considering the expected rise in future passport applications, the Central Government has planned the upgradation and scalability of all Passport Seva Kendras under PSP V 2.0.

This information was provided by Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh in reply to a question raised by MP Dr. Mannalal Rawat in Parliament.

Dr. Rawat had sought details regarding:

The number of passport applications received in Rajasthan’s Regional Passport Offices (RPOs) since 2017,

The number of passports issued in this period,

The count of pending applications,

Steps taken to expedite disposal of pending cases, and

Whether there is any proposal to upgrade Udaipur Passport Seva Kendra into a Regional Passport Office.

Large Volume of Applications from Rajasthan

The Minister informed that a significant number of applications have been received from every district of Rajasthan. From Udaipur alone, 1,62,580 applications were submitted during the last nine years, of which 1,57,162 passports have been issued. Several applications, however, are still pending.

The responsibility for maintaining records of pending cases rests with the Regional Passport Offices. At present, RPO Jaipur has around 5,214 pending cases, and RPO Kota has about 888 pending applications, due to incomplete documents submitted by applicants, policy-related issues, pending police verifications, and shortage of staff.

Steps to Speed Up Passport Issuance

Responding further to MP Dr. Rawat, the Minister said that, given the increasing demand and pending workload, the Ministry is continuously working to expedite the passport issuance process.
Key measures include:

Increasing the number of daily appointment slots,

Conducting special weekend drives,

Deploying staff from the Ministry and other passport offices to clear backlogs,

Providing walk-in appointments at RPO back offices for quick disposal of pending files.

Udaipur Passport Seva Kendra to Be Upgraded

The Minister added that keeping in mind the anticipated rise in applications, the Ministry has planned scalability and upgradation of all centers under PSP V 2.0, and Udaipur Passport Seva Kendra will also be upgraded under this initiative.
