MGNREGA Is the Lifeline of Rural India, Modi Government Has Snatched People’s Rights; Modi–Shah’s Lies Exposed in National Herald Case – Ritu Chaudhary

Modi–Shah’s Lies Exposed in National Herald Case – Ritu Chaudhary

Udaipur, All India Congress Committee National Spokesperson Ritu Chaudhary launched a sharp attack on the central government during a press conference in Udaipur, accusing the Modi government of deliberately weakening MGNREGA and misusing central agencies in the National Herald case to target political opponents.

Addressing the media, Chaudhary said that for nearly two decades, MGNREGA has been a lifeline for crores of rural families, but the Modi government has systematically diluted the scheme. She alleged that budget cuts, withholding of legally mandated funds to states, cancellation of job cards, and mandatory Aadhaar-based payments have pushed nearly 70 million workers out of the scheme. As a result, rural workers are now receiving barely 50–55 days of employment annually, reflecting a calculated attempt to dismantle MGNREGA. She termed this an attack on Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals and a direct assault on rural employment security.

On the National Herald issue, Chaudhary accused the Modi government of using the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and CBI as tools of political vendetta. She stated that courts have repeatedly questioned the legal basis of the case, noting the absence of a clear predicate offence or concrete evidence of money laundering. Despite this, Sonia Gandhi and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi are being repeatedly targeted to intimidate the opposition. She described Rahul Gandhi’s 50-hour questioning over five days as nothing but a political conspiracy.

Chaudhary asserted that recent judicial observations have exposed the misuse of constitutional institutions by the Modi government. She said that after Rahul Gandhi exposed alleged “vote theft” by the ruling party, the government resorted to propaganda and pressure tactics.

She concluded by stating that the Congress party will continue its fight—from the streets to Parliament—to protect democracy, the Constitution, and the rights of the poor, workers, and rural families.

Several senior Congress leaders were present during the press conference.
