###Mohanlal Sukhadia University Hosts 33rd Convocation Ceremony

Udaipur. Mohanlal Sukhadia University (MLSU), Udaipur, organized its 33rd Convocation Ceremony with dignity and academic fervour at the RNT Medical College Auditorium. The Governor of Rajasthan and Chancellor of the University, Haribhau Bagade, presided over the ceremony and inspired students by emphasizing that convocation is not the culmination of education, but the beginning of a lifelong journey of learning, responsibility, and service.

Addressing the graduating students, the Governor stated that education finds its true meaning only when knowledge is applied for the welfare of society and the nation. Citing the Taittiriya Upanishad, he reminded students of the timeless message imparted by teachers at the conclusion of education—to walk on the path of truth and to perform one’s duty with integrity. He clarified that dharma signifies duty and ethical responsibility, and that continuous learning combined with dedication to humanity constitutes the true obligation of a student.

During the ceremony, degrees and honours were awarded for the academic session 2024. A total of 255 research scholars were conferred with the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree, while 91 meritorious students from various faculties received Gold Medals and sponsored memorial awards for their outstanding academic achievements.

Reflecting on India’s ancient Guru–Shishya tradition, the Governor said that education in earlier times focused on the holistic development of students—intellectual, moral, and spiritual. He noted that modern convocation ceremonies are a continuation of this tradition in contemporary form. He urged students to use their degrees not merely as instruments for personal success, but as tools for social transformation and nation-building. Highlighting the glorious heritage of Mewar, he cited the examples of Maharana Sanga and Meera Bai, stressing the need to reconnect with and promote India’s own historical and cultural legacy.

The Governor also lauded the university’s academic progress, stating that the NAAC ‘A’ grade and recognition in the NIRF rankings reflect MLSU’s commitment to quality education, research, and institutional excellence. He congratulated the university administration, faculty members, and non-teaching staff for their collective efforts.

The convocation address was delivered by the Governor of Punjab, Gulab Chand Kataria, who congratulated the students and expressed special appreciation for the remarkable performance of female students, who outnumbered male students among gold medalists and Ph.D. awardees. He cautioned students against measuring success solely by salary packages, emphasizing that true greatness lies in humility, ethical conduct, and respect for others. Highlighting the pivotal role of teachers, he described them as nation-builders who shape the character of future generations. He also urged the state government to fill long-pending vacant teaching positions, stating that universities cannot thrive solely on guest faculty arrangements.

Deputy Chief Minister and Higher Education Minister Premchand Bairwa reaffirmed the Rajasthan government’s strong commitment to expanding and improving higher education. He spoke about the establishment of new colleges, infrastructure development, recruitment of teachers, and the rising Gross Enrolment Ratio, particularly the encouraging increase in the participation of girl students. He also emphasized the transformative role of information technology and e-learning, which has enabled students in remote areas to access quality education and expert guidance.

Minister of State and Special Guest Prof. Manju Baghmar described convocation as a gateway to a new phase of life. Referring to the National Education Policy (NEP), she highlighted its focus on multidisciplinary learning, skill development, creativity, innovation, and startup culture. She encouraged students to aspire not only for employment but also to develop the capacity to generate employment and contribute meaningfully to the nation’s progress.
