###Students Learn the Lessons of Democracy in Rajasthan Legislative Assembly

On December 15, 2025, the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly witnessed a historic and inspiring initiative with the organization of the state’s first-ever One-Day Youth Parliament, held under the leadership of Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani. The programme brought together 164 selected students from government schools across 41 districts of Rajasthan, studying in Classes 9 to 12, and offered them a rare opportunity to experience the democratic process from within the Assembly.

The Youth Parliament was centered on the theme “Our Future, Our Decision”, where students actively participated in debates and discussions, reflecting clarity of thought, confidence and social awareness. By assuming roles such as Speaker, Leader of the House, Leader of the Opposition and MLAs, the students gained practical exposure to parliamentary procedures, moving beyond theoretical knowledge found in textbooks. Dressed in traditional attire, including Rajasthani safa, the participants recreated the dignity and discipline of the House, leaving a lasting impression on all present.

In his inaugural address, Speaker Vasudev Devnani emphasized that the Legislative Assembly is not only a law-making institution but also a powerful platform for nurturing young minds. He urged students to develop independent thinking, raise questions, analyze issues deeply and suggest constructive solutions. Highlighting the pressures faced by today’s youth—academic stress, career anxiety and social media influence—he stressed the importance of mental strength, ethical values, life skills and proper career guidance. According to him, Youth Parliament is a forward-looking initiative aimed at transforming young citizens into confident leaders of the 21st century.

Education Minister Madan Dilawar, addressing the gathering, described the presence of students in the historic Assembly building as a matter of pride. He encouraged them to learn dialogue, cooperation and discipline to strengthen democracy. Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Secretary and MLA Sandeep Sharma called the initiative a meaningful step toward connecting the younger generation with national policy-making and democratic values.

A major highlight of the Youth Parliament was the resolution passed unanimously, recommending the launch of a state-level mental health and career counselling programme, the establishment of counselling cells in every school, availability of trained counsellors and regular guidance activities. The proposal aimed at enhancing students’ mental well-being, self-confidence and clarity in career choices.

Overall, the One-Day Youth Parliament proved to be a successful and visionary initiative. It empowered students with practical democratic experience, boosted leadership and communication skills, and sent a strong message that today’s informed and confident youth are truly the leaders of tomorrow.
