Children and Young Artists Bring Rajasthan’s Rare Folk Arts to Life at Youth Festival

Udaipur. A grand Divisional-Level Youth Festival 2025–26 was organised at Mahatma Gandhi Government School, Paneriyon Ki Madri, under the aegis of the Rajasthan Youth Board and the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of Rajasthan. The festival provided a vibrant platform for young talents to showcase their cultural, literary, and artistic skills.

Held on Tuesday under the guidance of the Divisional Commissioner and District Collector, the closing ceremony of the festival was graced by former councillor Rajkumari Menaria as the chief guest. The programme was presided over by District Education Officer (Secondary) Dr. Lokesh Bharti. Special guests included Additional District Education Officer Mohanlal Meghwal, principals Deshpal Singh Shekhawat, Manju Shrimali and Tarun Shrimali. The programme was conducted by Kiran Bala Bhatt and Santosh Vyas.

Nodal Officer Lokesh Bharti said that in line with state government directives, a wide range of cultural and artistic competitions were organised under the Youth Festival to promote folk culture and creative expression. Through their performances, child and youth artists not only preserved but also revived several fading folk art forms of Rajasthan. District-level winners delivered outstanding performances at the divisional level, earning enthusiastic applause from the audience while striving to qualify for the state-level competition.

Competition Convener Dr. Satyanarayan Suthar informed that young artists from various districts participated in 19 different folk art categories. These included science exhibitions, group and solo folk dance, group and solo folk singing, storytelling, writing, painting, speech, handicrafts, textiles, agricultural products, Phad painting, Ravanhatta, Mandana, puppetry, Khadtal, Bhapang, murals, and Phad singing—many of which are considered rare and traditional folk arts of Rajasthan.

Co-Convener Sushil Kumar Yadav added that participants included first-place winners from district-level competitions across Udaipur, Rajsamand, Pratapgarh, Salumber, Dungarpur, Banswara, and Chittorgarh. Nodal Officer Lokesh Bharti further stated that all artists securing first, second, and third positions were honoured with certificates of appreciation and mementoes.

According to Media In-charge Gopal Mehta, all folk artists who secured first place at the divisional level will represent the Udaipur division at the upcoming State-Level Youth Festival to be held in Jaipur in the coming days.
