Udaipur.Reacting to the nationwide public movements demanding protection of the Aravalli mountain range, Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee General Secretary and Spokesperson Pankaj Kumar Sharma has launched a sharp attack on the Central Government. In a statement issued here, Sharma said that the Aravalli range is not only vital for Rajasthan, but is the lifeline for environmental balance, water conservation, and biodiversity across entire North India.
He alleged that instead of safeguarding this priceless natural heritage, the policies of the Central Government are committing a grave injustice by handing it over to corporate interests. “The destruction of the Aravallis will have disastrous consequences for ecology, climate, and water security,” Sharma warned.
Sharma further stated that the public movements emerging across the country clearly indicate that citizens will not accept the destruction of the Aravalli range at any cost. However, he expressed regret that the Central Government is completely ignoring public sentiment and environmental concerns.
Targeting the Centre on another issue, Sharma said the government is committing a second major wrongdoing by renaming the MGNREGA scheme and drastically cutting its budget, thereby weakening this crucial welfare programme. “MGNREGA is not merely an employment scheme; it is the backbone of the rural economy, water conservation, environmental protection, and social security,” he said.
He added that steps ranging from changing the name of the scheme to withholding funds clearly reflect the anti-poor, anti-farmer, and anti-labour mindset of the Central Government.
Pankaj Kumar Sharma asserted that the Congress Party will continue its struggle—from public movements to Parliament and the streets—to protect the Aravalli mountain range and to strengthen MGNREGA, standing firmly with the people in defense of the environment and social justice.
