####Journalists Raise Key Demands at JAR State Convention; Media’s Role in Democracy Is Crucial: Om Birla

Kota,The state-level convention of the Journalist Association of Rajasthan (JAR) was held on Sunday at Siyam Auditorium, Kota, where journalists highlighted their demands and challenges. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla attended the convention as the Chief Guest, while Energy Minister Hiralal Nagar was present as the Special Guest.

The event witnessed the presence of JAR office-bearers from the state, divisional and district levels in large numbers. JAR Chief Patron Purushottam Pancholi, State President Harivallabh Meghwal, Kota District President Dinesh Gautam, District General Secretary Pawan Parik, along with other office-bearers, welcomed the guests by garlanding them and presenting traditional turbans.

The convention was presided over by senior journalist and Director of the Haryana Rural Development Institute, Dr. Virendra Singh Chauhan, who highlighted the problems and challenges faced by journalists. He also urged a fresh review of the Press Council of India, which was constituted decades ago, in view of present-day realities.

Addressing the gathering, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said that the role of journalists has been extremely important in India’s democracy, from the freedom struggle to the present times. He stated that journalists have consistently played a vital role in creating social awareness through their writing. Referring to the changing technological landscape, he said that the new era of media has helped bring people’s problems to the forefront, but ethical journalism remains the biggest challenge today.

He emphasized that journalists have always conveyed the emotions, thoughts, difficulties and challenges of the people, especially those living in remote areas, while ensuring transparency in governance and administration. He urged journalists to continue writing fearlessly and impartially so that the voice of the last person in society finds expression through the pen.

During the convention, journalists also raised various issues related to their profession, for which Om Birla assured appropriate solutions.

District General Secretary Pawan Parik informed that in the first session, journalists from across Rajasthan shared their views, with representation from around 35 districts. On the occasion, BSF retired DIG Prabhakar Joshi was honoured by Om Birla for his significant role in Operation Sindoor. DIG Joshi also shared memories related to the operation with the journalists.

JAR State President Harivallabh Meghwal presented the organisational report, while District President Dinesh Gautam expressed gratitude to all participants.
The programme was jointly conducted by senior journalists Deepak Panwar (Jaipur) and Om Pancholi.
