Seminar on “Renunciation and Charity in Life: Why and How” Organized by Philosophy of Science Wing

Udaipur: Under the Philosophy of Science Wing of the Vigyan Samiti, a seminar-cum-discussion on the topic **“Renunciation and Charity in Life: Why and How”** was successfully organized.

The keynote speaker of the seminar, young scholar **Shri Yash Jain**, in his address elaborated on the importance of renunciation of material attachments and mental disorders in the context of spirituality, naturopathy, and family relationships. He emphasized that true renunciation is that which is practiced along with the abandonment of attachment and expectations. Such charity and renunciation, he said, lead an individual toward inner peace and social harmony. Shri Jain highlighted various dimensions of charity from a practical, life-oriented perspective.

Presiding over the program, **Dr. K. L. Kothari**, Chief Patron and Founder of Vigyan Samiti, stressed the practical aspects of charity. He stated that renunciation is not limited to material possessions alone, but also includes the renunciation of ego, greed, and selfishness. He added that spiritual growth and social welfare are not possible without charity and sacrifice. Describing scholarships as a powerful form of knowledge donation, he urged everyone to adopt the spirit of noble charity and the renunciation of negative traits according to their capacity.

Program coordinator **Dr. Paras Mal Agrawal** referred to **Shrimad Bhagavad Gita, Chapter 12, Verse 12**, explaining the peace attained through renunciation of the fruits of actions. He also cited **Gatha 38 of the Samayasara**, emphasizing the concept of trusteeship (guardianship) as essential for maintaining social balance.

Media In-charge **Prof. Vimal Sharma** said that the philosophy of charity and renunciation forms the core essence of all religions. He explained that Hinduism speaks of *“Daanam Bhogaya Nashaya”*, Jain philosophy emphasizes *Parigraha-Tyag*, Buddhism upholds *Dana Paramita*, Islam practices *Zakat*, Christianity promotes *Charity*, and Sikhism highlights *Seva*. All these traditions aim to elevate human beings beyond self-centeredness toward the welfare of society and humanity. He added that renunciation is not merely an act of giving up, but a process of adopting higher consciousness, and charity is not just an act of giving, but a living expression of compassion.

The seminar concluded with positive dialogue, self-reflection, and a reinforced sense of social responsibility.

The event was enriched by the presence and contributions of **Dr. K. P. Talesara, Dr. R. K. Garg, Dr. K. L. Totawat, Dr. I. L. Jain, Dr. Suman Kumar Jain, Shantilal Bhandari, Ashok Jain, Prakash Tated**, and several other distinguished members.
