Udaipur: Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee Vice President **Ramvilas Chaudhary** strongly criticized the policies of the central government while addressing a press conference held on Saturday at the RTDC Hotel Kajri near Shastri Circle. He alleged that instead of strengthening public welfare schemes, the central government is merely changing their names and formats to divert public attention from real issues.
Chaudhary said that the **Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA)** was unanimously implemented by the Congress government as a historic, people-centric scheme that provided dignified employment, livelihood security, and economic support to crores of rural families. However, he alleged that the government is now trying to implement changes under the so-called **“G-Ramji Model,”** which goes against the original spirit of the scheme.
Taking a dig, he said,
“Changing the name of a scheme neither strengthens NREGA nor improves the condition of workers. The government knows only the politics of renaming schemes, but shows no will to work on the ground.”
### Serious Objections to G-Ramji Model
Congress leaders expressed serious concerns over the proposed G-Ramji model under MGNREGA. They stated that this model would centralize decision-making powers with the central government, thereby harming the federal structure. It could also lead to discrimination against states and impose up to four times the financial burden on them.
Chaudhary warned that the new model would weaken workers’ rights and transform MGNREGA from a rights-based scheme into a controlled program. He said that in protest, the Congress party has launched a **45-day nationwide movement** to raise the voices of workers, farmers, and rural citizens.
### Allegations of Diverting Attention from Core Issues
Congress leaders said that people across the country are facing unprecedented **inflation, unemployment, and economic insecurity**. Youth are struggling to find jobs, farmers are burdened by rising costs and debt, and the purchasing power of the poor is steadily declining. Despite this, the government is avoiding serious discussions on these core issues and instead promoting emotional and diversionary agendas.
They accused the central government of framing policies to benefit select corporate groups rather than the general public. Privatization of public assets and unchecked exploitation of natural resources were cited as clear examples.
### Concern Over Environment and Aravalli Region
Special concern was raised regarding environmental protection in the **Aravalli region**. Congress leaders alleged that excessive mining and industrial activities are leading to environmental imbalance, water scarcity, and posing a serious threat to future generations.
They also claimed that democratic values and the independence of constitutional institutions are under increasing threat.
“In a democracy, asking questions is not a crime, but today anyone who questions the government is suppressed,” they said, calling this trend dangerous for democracy.
### Congress Will Remain Voice of the People
Former Congress Working Committee member, former minister, and Rural District President **Raghuveer Meena** asserted that the Congress party would continue to stand as the voice of the people. He said the party would oppose every policy that goes against the interests of the nation, the state, and future generations, and would fight for public welfare from the streets to Parliament.
Former district collector and MP candidate **Tara Chand Meena** appealed to citizens to differentiate between truth and falsehood, unite to protect the Constitution, and actively participate in safeguarding democratic values.
