Mumbai: Former Maharashtra Cabinet Minister Shri Raj K. Purohit passed away on Saturday night at a hospital in Mumbai. This news is extremely sorrowful for the Rajasthani migrant community, especially the Rajasthanis settled in Mumbai.
Shri Raj K. Purohit was born on 31 August 1955 in Phugni village, Sirohi district, Rajasthan. For the past approximately 45 years, he had been actively involved in politics and social service after settling in Mumbai. As a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), he had the honor of being elected as an MLA five times from the Mumbadevi and Colaba assembly constituencies. He also served as a Cabinet Minister in the Maharashtra Government and was the former President of Mumbai BJP.
His contributions to the Rajasthani community are particularly noteworthy. He played a significant role in organizing and strengthening the migrant Rajasthani (Marwari) community in Mumbai. He was the founder and president of the All India Rajasthani Pravasi Mahasangh, as well as the national vice-president of the All India Rajasthani Marwari Sammelan. He raised his voice on various issues affecting the society, resolved problems faced by business-connected Rajasthani migrants, and promoted women’s education and empowerment. His efforts to preserve Rajasthani culture, traditions, and unity were commendable. He was also associated with international organizations such as the Rajasthan Association of North America and remained dedicated to strengthening the power of migrant Rajasthanis.
His work in the upliftment of the Rajasthani community, political representation, and social unity will always be remembered. His final darshan will be held on Sunday, 18 January 2026, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Rajhans Building, G Road, Marine Drive, Mumbai. His last rites will be performed at 1:00 PM at Mukti Dham, Hindu Cremation Ground, Chandanwadi, Marine Lines, Mumbai.
His demise is an irreparable loss to the Rajasthani community.
