###BJP National President Election: Nitin Nabin’s Elevation Almost Certain

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to hold its national president election on Monday, January 19, with the official result expected on Tuesday, January 20. Conducted in accordance with the party’s constitution, the election follows an organizational and electoral college–based process rather than a direct vote.

Union Health and Family Welfare Minister J. P. Nadda has served as BJP National President since January 20, 2020. Before assuming the full role, he was appointed Working President in June 2019—mirroring the path now taken by Nitin Nabin. Though Nadda’s original term concluded in 2023, the party extended his tenure multiple times to ensure leadership continuity, especially during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

On December 14, 2025, Nitin Nabin was appointed BJP’s Working National President. Now, just over a month later, his election as the permanent National President on January 20, 2026 appears all but assured. At 45, Nabin—an experienced legislator and former Bihar minister—has emerged as the sole prominent contender in the current process.

The election formally begins with nomination filings on January 19. While BJP’s internal elections may proceed by consensus or voting, this time the party leadership is clearly projecting Nitin Nabin as the next National President. Senior leaders, potentially including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, may act as proposers—an unmistakable signal of top-level endorsement.

Rajasthan’s Strategic Role

Rajasthan has assumed notable importance in this election. Proposers play a crucial role in validating and strengthening a candidate’s nomination, reflecting organizational confidence and national backing. The Rajasthan BJP has announced a list of 20 proposers, representing both the party organization and the state government, underscoring the state’s intent to reinforce its influence at the national level.

The list includes Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, State BJP President Madan Rathore, former Chief Minister and BJP National Vice President Vasundhara Raje, Deputy Chief Ministers Diya Kumari and Dr. Premchand Bairwa, National Minister Dr. Alka Singh Gurjar, and several senior leaders, former ministers, MPs, and organizational stalwarts. Their collective endorsement signals a strong, unified support base for Nitin Nabin.

The Constitutional Process

The BJP National President is elected by an electoral college constituted under the party constitution. Prior to this, organizational elections must be completed at booth, mandal, district, and state levels in more than 50 percent of states and Union Territories. Members of the National Council and State Councils form the electoral college.

Candidates must meet constitutional eligibility criteria, including a minimum of 15 years of party membership, and submit nominations backed by proposers from multiple states. If more than one candidate files nominations, voting takes place; otherwise, an unopposed election is likely.

With nominations scheduled for January 19 and results expected on January 20, 2026, all indicators suggest that the formalities are complete. Only the final seal remains—one that is poised to confirm Nitin Nabin as the next National President of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
