####SaveLIFE and Parle Strengthen Trauma Care in Nagpur

Nagpur, In a significant step towards strengthening emergency medical response and trauma care services in high-risk road accident corridors, SaveLIFE Foundation, in partnership with Parle Biscuits Private Limited under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, and with the support of the Public Health Department, Government of Maharashtra, has donated critical surgical equipment to two rural hospitals in Nagpur district.

The equipment was handed over to the Umred Rural Hospital and Trauma Care Unit located on NH-353D (Umred–Bhiwapur Road) and the Deolapar Rural Hospital situated on NH-44 (Nagpur–Deolapar Road)—both identified as high-fatality corridors with a history of severe road accidents.

Medical Superintendent of Umred Rural Hospital, Dr. Prabhakar Vanjari, and Medical Superintendent of Deolapar Rural Hospital, Dr. Sanjay Meshram, participated in the respective handover programmes along with representatives from SaveLIFE Foundation.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Prabhakar Vanjari said,
“Timely intervention is critical in road accident injuries. The addition of this surgical equipment will significantly enhance Umred Rural Hospital’s capacity to manage emergency trauma cases effectively.”

Highlighting the impact of the initiative, Dr. Sanjay Meshram stated,
“This collaboration strengthens our hospital’s emergency preparedness and will directly benefit road accident victims on NH-44. We appreciate the efforts of SaveLIFE Foundation and Parle Biscuits Private Limited in reinforcing trauma care services at the rural level.”

Both NH-353D and NH-44 experience heavy traffic flow and pose a high risk of serious road accidents. Between January and November 2025, fatalities on NH-44 increased by 104 percent, rising from 24 deaths in 2024 to 49 deaths in 2025. On NH-353D, fatalities declined by 10 percent, from 30 deaths in 2024 to 27 in 2025. Overall, road accident fatalities across high-mortality corridors in Nagpur rural increased by 7.3 percent, from 233 deaths (January–November 2024) to 250 deaths during the same period in 2025.

By equipping rural hospitals with essential surgical and emergency care equipment, this initiative aims to enhance trauma care preparedness and reduce preventable deaths and severe injuries resulting from road crashes.

Supported by Parle Biscuits Private Limited under its CSR programme, the Zero Fatality Corridor (ZFC) initiative focuses on transforming high-risk highways into safer corridors through advanced crash data analysis, community engagement, improved trauma care, and capacity building.

The provision of critical surgical equipment to Umred and Deolapar Rural Hospitals will ensure timely treatment and improved emergency preparedness for road accident victims. Under the Zero Fatality Corridor programme, this initiative marks another step toward reducing preventable fatalities and building a more effective emergency care system.

Speaking about the initiative, Dr. Ilya Jaffer, Programme Head at SaveLIFE Foundation, said,
“The lack of specialized trauma care facilities in hospitals located near crash sites is a major contributor to road accident fatalities. By strengthening the emergency and trauma care capabilities of Umred and Deolapar Rural Hospitals, we are confident of achieving better survival outcomes.”

SaveLIFE Foundation continues to play a leading role in road safety and trauma care by leveraging data-driven evidence, with the goal of achieving zero fatalities on India’s highways.
