Literature is a Powerful Tool for Nation-Building: Arjun Ram Meghwal

New Delhi / Bikaner: Union Minister for Law and Justice, **Arjun Ram Meghwal**, urged writers and authors to create literature that **instills patriotism, sacrifice, and self-respect among the people** while fostering awareness for positive social change and development.

Minister Meghwal shared these views during an event held at **Garvi Gujarat Bhawan on Akbar Road, New Delhi**, organized by **Bharatiya Bhasha evam Sahitya Sangam** and **Veena Music**, to honor authors and literary figures participating in the **World Book Fair**.

He recounted how renowned folk singer and **Padma Shri awardee Malini Awasthi** used her songs to spread patriotism to the masses. In the same vein, he encouraged writers and literary figures to use their works to awaken similar sentiments in society. Meghwal emphasized that **literature plays an indispensable role in building a strong, prosperous, and self-reliant India**. When writing aligns with national interests, it becomes more than words—it transforms into a force that drives social and national progress.

He highlighted that a nation’s **cultural consciousness and moral values are reflected in its literature**. When authors prioritize **national welfare, social harmony, and human values** in their writing, they help unite all sections of society. Literature, he said, is not merely a source of entertainment; it is a **powerful medium that can guide society and contribute to nation-building**.

Meghwal further stressed that in a diverse country like India, the role of literature becomes even more critical. Writers can use their craft to **transcend linguistic, caste, regional, and class barriers**, connecting people through a shared sense of national identity. He called for literature that **inspires the youth, connects them with India’s culture, history, and values, and fosters a sense of duty toward the nation**.

The Minister said that patriotism should extend beyond slogans, manifesting in **thoughts, actions, and creative expression**. Literature that promotes values like **sacrifice, service, honesty, and self-respect** leaves a profound impact on society. Writing with a positive and development-oriented perspective **spreads hope and confidence among people**.

Meghwal also highlighted the increasing responsibility of writers in today’s world, where society faces numerous challenges. Through their works, authors can **replace despair, violence, and negativity with harmony, dialogue, and solutions**, serving as both a **mirror and a guide for society**.

He noted that the government is continuously promoting **literature, culture, and creative expression**, providing authors opportunities to convey their ideas through various literary platforms and events. Meghwal encouraged writers to **actively contribute to nation-building by utilizing these opportunities**.

Speaking about the **Rajasthani language**, he said it is **sweet, simple, and widely spoken by the Rajasthani diaspora worldwide**. He also praised the efforts of **C. Maloo**, founder of Sanskriti Purush and Veena Music, for using Rajasthani folk songs and music to educate society and awaken cultural consciousness.

At the event, **Hemjit Maloo**, patron of Bharatiya Bhasha evam Sahitya Sangam, Jaipur, and **Dr. Kumes Kumar Jain Raypur (Chhattisgarh), President of the Sangam**, welcomed all guests. **Senior advisor Purushottam Divakar** expressed gratitude to Minister Meghwal for his inspiring speech.

The program was attended by several prominent literary figures, including **Doordarshan Director Akhilesh Sharma**.

The Jaipur delegation of **Bharatiya Bhasha evam Sahitya Sangam** also had a courtesy meeting with **Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla**, briefing him about the activities of the organization.
