Udaipur:Amid the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls in Udaipur city, serious concerns have emerged over the alleged deletion of a large number of Muslim voters’ names from the voter list. In response to the issue, Anjuman Taleemul Islam, Udaipur, on Monday submitted a memorandum to the District Collector, demanding immediate intervention and corrective action. The memorandum was submitted under the leadership of Anjuman President (Sadar) Mr. Mukhtar Qureshi.
Through the memorandum, Anjuman Secretary Mr. Mustafa Sheikh drew the attention of the district administration to what he described as an extremely grave and sensitive matter. He stated that the right to vote is a fundamental pillar of democracy, and depriving any particular community of this constitutional right is not only against the spirit of the Indian Constitution but also a direct attack on the foundations of democracy. He emphasized that if such actions are carried out in a selective or targeted manner, they undermine public trust in the electoral process.
The memorandum, supported by members of the Anjuman’s Cabinet, General House, and several respected citizens of the city, strongly demanded that the administration take suo motu cognizance of the matter. It called for strict legal action against those Booth Level Officers (BLOs) who allegedly removed Muslim voters’ names from the electoral rolls in an arbitrary, negligent, or biased manner.
During the submission of the memorandum, Anjuman’s Vice President (Naib Sadar) Mr. Farooq Qureshi also demanded an impartial and transparent investigation into the role of Udaipur MLA Mr. Tarachand Jain in the matter. He stated that if any public representative is found to be involved or responsible, appropriate legal action should be initiated as per the law.
Senior Anjuman member Mr. Riyaz Hussain warned that if such discriminatory practices are not checked in time, they could prove extremely harmful to the democratic system in the long run. Echoing similar concerns, General House member Mr. Umar Farooq appealed to citizens to remain vigilant and unite to protect democracy and their voting rights.
Joint Secretary of Anjuman Taleemul Islam, Mr. Izhar Hussain, urged the district administration to immediately rectify all discrepancies found in the voter lists and ensure that no Indian citizen faces discrimination on the basis of religion in the electoral process.
Several office bearers and members of Anjuman Taleemul Islam were present on the occasion. Prominent among the Cabinet members were Mr. Anis Abbasi, Advocate Shejjad Ahmad, Mr. Syed Irshad Ali, Mr. Tanveer Chishty, and Advocate Adil Sheikh. General House members present included Mr. Riyaz Hussain, Mr. Mohammed Ayub, Mr. Feroz Khan, Advocate Nasir Hussain, Advocate Ashfaq Hussain, Mr. Mohammed Arif Abbasi, Mr. Shahrukh Khan, Mr. Akhtar Khan, and Mr. Umar Farooq, along with a large number of other members.
