Sambhaji Nagar / Udaipur / Jaipur, Rajasthan has achieved a moment of great pride as Dr. Anil Mehta, Principal of Vidya Bhavan Polytechnic and a renowned water expert, has been conferred with the prestigious “Jal Nirmalata Award” at the 58th National Water Conference of the Indian Water Works Association (IWWA), the largest professional body of water engineers and scientists in India. The award recognizes his outstanding and value-based contributions to the field of water management and conservation at the national level.

The Jal Nirmalata Award was instituted by Dr. M. A. Chitale, former Secretary, Ministry of Water Resources, Government of India, and a globally respected water engineer who is also a recipient of the Stockholm Water Prize, adding exceptional prestige to the honour.
The award was presented on Thursday at the MIT Manthan Auditorium in Sambhaji Nagar (Aurangabad) in the presence of eminent dignitaries, including Municipal Commissioner G. Srikant, IWWA President and Chief Engineer of Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran, Manisha Palande, former Chief Engineer of the Madhya Pradesh Water Supply Department Dr. M. L. Agrawal, and Conference Organising Committee Chairman Prof. Upendra Kulkarni, along with several other distinguished experts from across the country.
The Indian Water Works Association (IWWA) is a premier professional organization working in the areas of assured and quality water supply for domestic, industrial and agricultural use, sewerage systems and treatment, and storm water management. IWWA is affiliated at the international level with the International Water Association (IWA), the American Water Works Association (AWWA) and the Japan Water Works Association (JWWA). The Association has nearly 14,000 members worldwide who actively contribute to addressing environmental, social, institutional and financing issues related to water. Around 5,500 members are serving in various central and state government departments, corporations and local bodies engaged in water supply and sanitation.
While honouring Dr. Mehta, IWWA office bearers noted that as a teacher, scientist and civil engineer, he possesses a holistic and forward-looking vision of sustainable water management, water security, and the conservation of rivers, lakes and ponds, encompassing the entire water cycle. His ethical leadership, commitment to voluntary service, and dedication to public welfare in the water sector have been described as exemplary for the entire nation.
Dr. Mehta has made significant contributions at the local, national and global levels through his roles as Honorary Secretary of the India Water Partnership (IWP), expert member of the Expert Appraisal Committee of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India, central team member of Paryavaran Sanrakshan Gatividhi, and member of various lake conservation committees.
Welcoming the honour, O. P. Goyal, Chairman of the Rajasthan Chapter, Jaipur Centre of IWWA and former Chief Engineer, described Dr. Mehta’s achievement as a proud moment for all engineers of Rajasthan. He stated that this recognition would inspire professionals and youth alike to work with greater dedication toward water conservation, sustainability and inclusive development.
