New Delhi:At this year’s Republic Day Parade on Kartavya Path in New Delhi, Rajasthan’s tableau—designed around the world-famous Usta art of Bikaner—captivated audiences with its exquisite craftsmanship, rich cultural heritage, and vibrant presentation.
Designer and Supervisor of the tableau, Hari Shiv Kumar Sharma, said that during the full dress rehearsal held on Friday, the Rajasthan tableau themed “Golden Touch of the Rajasthan Desert” drew widespread appreciation. The front section of the tableau features a 180-degree rotating sculpture of a folk artist playing the traditional Ravanahatha, one of Rajasthan’s iconic musical instruments. On both sides, beautifully framed Usta art–decorated surahis, kuppis, and lamps are displayed. This front portion of the tableau stands approximately 13 feet tall.
He further explained that the trailer section showcases rotating traditional kuppis adorned with Usta art, along with live depictions of artisans engaged in handicraft work, highlighting the living tradition of this rare art form. The rear section features a majestic camel and camel rider sculpture, symbolising Rajasthan’s desert culture and folk life. On either side, arches decorated with Usta art display fine examples of leaf-patterned golden craftsmanship.
Sharma added that Gair folk dancers performing around the tableau further enhanced its visual appeal, powerfully presenting Rajasthan’s cultural identity. Overall, the tableau emerged as a vibrant confluence of traditional art, folk culture, and royal heritage.
Secretary of the Rajasthan Lalit Kala Akademi, Dr. Rajnish Harsh, stated that the tableau has been created under the guidance of Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Tourism, Art and Culture Diya Kumari, Additional Chief Secretary Praveen Gupta, and Deputy Secretary Anuradha Gogiya.
